Uni Champs!!
Haven't updated this blog for a while but cant fail to mention uni champs.
Art of War Crew made it to the semis!!! We beat Newcastle and Loughborough before losing to Leeds B. Twas an all Leeds final in fact. Massive jokes were had by all on the trip, which was my first visit to the lovely city of Newcastle. It is actually quite nice, trainer heaven on the main shopping street! Was great fun to rep with the guys and girls and i'll hope they'll do even better next year without me. Cant wait to get back to training now!
Another Urban Specialists term
the 1xtra thing has inspired me to put as much effort as possible into the show for next term. Admittedly this may only kick in for the second half of term when im through with my exams but the idea is there nonetheless. I'd like to make this blog a bit more useful and so i will try to post up tracklistings for all the songs we play, as well as previews of what the next show is likely to contain.
In the first two weeks you should be getting an interview with Ugly Duckling, who are playing the union on the first thursday (i.e the 2nd day) of term.
Any suggestions for the show or requests for future shows are always welcome on the blog – keep em tasteful tho
1xtra
Havent updated this blog in a while unfortunately, have been doing mad work on essays and such but….
went down to spend a week at 1xtra doing radio things this last week. Had an awesome time, working on shows for Jenna G, DJ Semtex and Ras Kwame. It looked like a really cool place to work and everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. Luckily they also use the might Cool Edit so all my RAW skills were not wasted.
Number 1 highlight was probably working on Ras Kwame's 100% Spoken Word special where they got about 15 of the UK's best performance and slam poets to come and kick stuff while Ras hosted and dropped some high grade homegrown talent. I've never really checked out that sort of thing before and it was heavy as. Incidentally, in Kat Francois the UK has the world slam poetry champion so big up us.
I strongly reccomend that you download the podcast of this show from 1xtra, especially to check out Goldie Rox, who has a Macy Gray but UK and better thing going on.
Also, Semtex's show put me on to the new Talib Kweli track Ms Hill which says what me and the gang have been ranting on about on the Urban Specialists for years. Come back Lauryn, we love you!!
