My parcel

Yesterday, when I came back to Liberty after Wind Orchestra, I found that they have rearranged reception and now have the post boxes in the main corridor to all the blocks (which also happens to be the thinnest corridor here, but nevermind!)

Anyway, I found my post box and in it, I found a parcel – yay, I like parcels! It was from a friend back at home. Now, had I the technological ability to take a photo and upload or scan the contents of the parcel I would. Instead you will have to suffice with a description:

It is a 'fridge magnet with a photograph of a pigeon sitting on the top of a stone statue of a female. The quote to the side of the picture reads – "Some days you're the pigeon, some days you're the statue."

It made me smile a lot, as it is so true! Hope that makes you smile, even if it is just a tempory feature!

A confession!

Yes, I know, my exams start in 3 weeks, and so I really should be using every available moment to revise. However, I'm just not in the mood today. It is past 4:15 and so far today I have only done 3 hours work. Still, there is time before bed yet to get a few more hours in!

Anyway, the point to my ramblings, instead of revising I nipped into town for a wander and an attempt to spend some of my Christmas tokens that I still have! So, I went into HMV and bought 'ikon' by The Sixteen under the direction of Harry Christophers. It is amazing. It is quite eery and is the sort of music that gives you goosepimples.

So, I can now spend at least the next three hours revising whilst listening to some very very cool music.

It's all go around here!

Writing about web page http://iccoventry.icnetwork.co.uk/0100news/0100localnews/tm_objectid=16985691%26method=full%26siteid=50003%26headline=city%2dstudents%2dcaught%2din%2dhigh%2drise%2dfire%2dterror-name_page.html

Ok, so the article is exaggerating slightly, but 1 whole block was evacuated, there were 2 fire engines, 1 ambulance and 1 police car.

But, all in all, at 11pm, everyone had returned to their flats, apart from the people in the involved flat and they were rehoused in a nearby flat. Today, there are lots of people here repairing the damaging and replacing windows etc.

Bonnett Catering Corps.

For those of you who haven't heard of the Bonnett Catering Corps., it is a small family run, non-profit organisation that cooks lunch in Knighton Parish Centre for between 60–80 people every so often.

To mark the departure of the curate and for the AGM, Dad, Mum and I have just prepared, bought, cooked, served and cleared chicken caserole and bread and butter pudding for 70 people. Needless to say, I am now quite tired!!

The three of us make a good unit really – Dad is the brains behind the operation and comes up with the menus and the portion sizes and hence the shopping list. Mum and I are the do-ers. We go shopping for 14 pints of milk, 15kg carrots…. and do all the preparation. On the day, Dad does the cooking while Mum serves and I wash up. Just for people who don't do washing up very often, plates, cutlery, serving dishes and saucepans for 70 people, takes 1 person 2 hours to wash, and a further hour to dry and put away!!!

So, if ever you fancy having private caters in for an event you are holding, look no further!!!

Distinctly Unimpressed

So, it is 8.16 and I have just been woken up by 2 workmen. Usually I hear the workmen from the construction site opposite coming to work and generally making noise. Normally, however, they are not banging on my door at 8am in the morning.

I, understandably, was asleep, not having got to sleep until about 1.30am. So, I had set the alarm for 9am. So, I AM NOT AMUSED, at having been woken up. Admittedly they have come to fit a new shower for me but I asked for it to be replaced from tomorrow onwards when I will be at home for a fortnight. When they knocked on my door, I didn't answer – because I was asleep. And so, they banged a bit louder and started shouting at me through the door. Only when they barged into my room did I get out of bed!

Needless to say, I am now awake and sitting here at my computer, in my pijamas waiting for them to fit the new shower so that I can get ready and start my revison. Oh yes, and they don't seem able to actually fit the new shower, so it looks like they are going to be here a while. I have a feeling today is going to be a great day – Not!

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

EDIT: It is now 8.40 and they are on their second shower, apparently the first one was a defect. However, they now can't find hot water. I am not a happy bunny.

EDIT 2: 8.57 am. They have left and I in theory have a fully functioning, brand new shower. I say they have left, they have also left muddy footprints in the bathroom, a flooded floor, a trail of litter…... STILL not happy.

I'm seeing badgers!

Currently, I should be revising for my metrics test on Friday, proof reading my coursework due in tomorrow and attempting to do the other 2 pieces of coursework sitting in my 'to-do' pile. However, I have week 10-itis!!! I really can't be bothered, what's the point and who cares all seem to be phrases I'm using a lot recently!!

This blog is however about much more exciting things than work! Last night I played Mahler's 1st Symphony in the SO and Chorus concert. Now, I may be going slightly mad as a result of too much maths, not enough sleep… however, I am sure that I saw badgers in the light/sound box at the back of the Butterworth Hall.

During the opening bars of the piece I happened to be looking up to see where the green flashing light was coming from, and unless I am loosing any remaining marbles I have (which is possible!) I am convinced I saw This and Thatz watching the concert from on high.

I was planning to ask them today whether they were there, just to check that I am still a bit sane (although, on reflection, talking to badgers isn't the most normal of things!) however, they have gone on holiday – alright for some!!

If any other orchestra members happen to have seen This and Thatz during the concert, please let me know!

Thank you – happy hols for anyone I won't see before you go home.

There's one born every minute

Why am I not in bed? Because, I have just done what I said I would never do, and watched a film on my own.

I get scared in films like Ice Age and Finding Nemo and yet did I turn this film off when within the opening 15 minutes, 39 people were killed? No, I carried on watching it and now can't go to bed – argh!

Just in case anyone was interested, the film in question was Final Destination, and irrespective whether or not it is meant to be scary – I was petrified.

An attempt to do less work

Good morning all,

In a bid to do slightly less work, I am writing a blog entry! I have also completed a killer Sudoku as well. Why I couldn't just have set the alarm for later I am not sure, but nevermind – lesson learnt!!

The problem with blogging is that you actually have to have something to say, and it would appear that I don't!!

In semi-exciting news (for some that will understand!), Thatz came to WO last night, and sat in the flute section for the first half and in the euphonium section for the second. He is also going to the ball and has recently been on a trip to London. I'm not sure all this excitement is good for such a young badger!!

Having now bored you all rigid, I shall return to my metric spaces assignments!! (and, yes, before you ask, they are non-assessed and hence do not need to be completed!)

Beach Party

I haven't written a blog entry in a while, possibly because I don't have anything exciting to say, possibly because I am a bit busy currently!

Anyway, this evening deserves an entry. Lu will be my witness to this should it be necessary. The car park at Liberty Park has become the place for a beach party. Hence, at the moment, there are in excess of 20 people dressed in rubber rings, shorts, tshirts etc, dancing to loud music and drinking copious amount of alcohol outside my window. What fun!

The reason for this entry? To complain? No. To fill time until the music and the screaming stops and I can go to bed!

Sleep well all,

Laura

A word of warning!

I hope that you all had a good Christmas and holiday. Happy New Year to those of you I have not already spoken to you!

I feel it necessary to explain the following however revolting, as a word of warning to prevent anyone experiencing the same as I did! Before Christmas, Mum kindly offered to buy food for me for this term and put it in my freezer so that it was here when I moved back in. What a lovely gesture, saved me having to buy it and had the added bonus of Mum buying better the Tesco Value items.

What therefore is my word of warning? Always check whether the power is going to be turned off to your 'fridge and freezer if you are going away for over a fortnight. You will be in for a nasty surprise if the powers goes off, I can assure you!

Never before have I seen or smelt anything as disgusting as I did when I opened my freezer after 2.5 weeks without power. I won't go into any detail as it was utterly revolting, but suffice it to say, i hope I never have to see or smell anything as bad, ever again.

See you all soon.
