Christingle

Writing about web page http://www.childrenssociety.org.uk/christingle/2005/landing.html

I was meant to be going to church twice today, but circumstances mean that I am now only going once. However, the service I am going to will be great. It is the Christingle service (the one with the oranges and Dolly Mixtures – see web link for further explaination!)

I am playing in the makeshift orchestra which will be a great laugh because most people haven't been playing long and hence it sounds fairly substandard! But, the church will be packed, we are expecting about 250 people. Dad is Churchwarden, Mum is Sidesperson and I'm general dogs body!

Just need to get some more revision done before I go, what a shame.

  1. Christingle services are great. Went to one at a friend's church last year – we got a few funny looks when the 6 of us trooped up to get our oranges in amongst the little kids :)

Hope it goes well, and have fun!

  3. Ah, the Christingle service – brings back the memories of all the nights before spent in the living room making hundreds of christingles (because my dad was the vicar). Of course I always made sure I got the job of putting the dolly mixture on them…mmmmmm

I always had to hand them out to the little children and then we'd hand them out to the adults because there were about 2 people under the age of 10 in the entire church! I used to get the job of lugging the spares around to the other churches in the parish – sweet memories indeed. Missed Christingle this year, but I have discovered that there actually IS a midnight mass going on in the benefice (my mum originally said there wasn't and I got all upset because it's the best service ever!) so I get to go to that and then Christmas day is always a nice occasion with lots of great carols and me belting out the descant!

  5. I used to love making Christingles as I loved nibbling on the nuts and cherries and things. And plus I love the smell of oranges and cloves.
Good luck with the party tomorrow, Laura.
