About me

I have maintained careers in Education and as a professional Actor/Director since graduating from Leicester Polytechnic in 1978. I initially went into acting but between 1987 and 1997 I taught Performing Arts up to BA level in Community Colleges and at Charles Keene College in Leicester where I also ran the Leicester Community Performance Workshop, The Leicestershire Arts and Media Training Consortium and sat on the Academic Board. In 1997 I went freelance and now work in a range of examination and assessment roles as well as pursuing a career as a theatre director. I am a Principle Moderator and Examiner for edexcel and OCR and act as an External Examiner on HNDs and Fds. I am a fellow of The Institute of Educational Assessors and a Chartered Educational Assessor. As the Artistic Director of Tangled Web Productions I have recently been awarded two ACE grants, the first to develop a multi-media theatre adaptation of Jack London’s The Star Rover and another to realise one of my own pieces No View from the Window, which has recently premiered at the 24:7 new writing festival in Manchester. As a corporate trainer I use Forum Theatre techniques to approach Performance and Change Management issues, most recently for Rolls Royce. I have also delivered workshops using these techniques for the Higher Education Academy and a number of universities. My interests are in pursuing a fundamental critique of the relationship between assessment and the performing arts and interrogating the quality of higher level vocational skills. I’d also quite like to get some directing work. Although I’ve been around a few years I remain flexible, keen to take on new ideas and tasks and adaptable to new technologies. I have a sense of humour and although I fulfil the casting directors’ cliché of an aging cockney gangster I’m sensitive and caring.
