My mad dog

Writing about web page http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ySTY7HCLXM

Took Gizmo to the woods and discovered that he likes to swim…and then go mad.

Turn up the volume to hear me swear when he almost knocks me over half way through :)

Amazing Microsoft Surface Computing

Writing about web page http://www.microsoft.com/surface/

I’ve not been inspired to blog for a while, but something has really caught my imagination over the last couple of days as it has a bunch of other people.

What’s really amazed me is the Microsoft (yes…Microsoft…) Surface Computing system.

It’s basically a flat touch sensitive computer screen, but they have implemented it so elegantly it has to be seen to be believed. The best demo I’ve seen is this one:

Improv Everywhere

Writing about web page http://improveverywhere.com/home.php

Improv Everywhere are a group of New Yorkers who basically do street pranks/performances. Exactly what they do is hard to describe so it's best to watch:

Go and visit their site as you'll spend hours (as I did last night) watching some of the stuff they've been up to…it's genius.

I particularly like Slo-Mo Home Depot and Mobius, but they've got 50 so there are probably better ones :)

PS. I love our new [media] tags

Monkeehub

Writing about web page http://www.monkeehub.com/

Having just watched for the first time the brilliant JCB Song video, I went in search of it's creators.

Monkeehub is a one man band animator/artist who has created the JCB Song video, but I think even more impressive is the Radiohead Creep video he has made…absolutely bloody marvelous!

What makes this even more fun is the fact that the maniac made this stuff with Flash…wonderful.

Know what people are saying about you

Writing about Trying to get a response from Blinkx from Contemplating the Frame

Following my discovery that Blinkx were being slightly misleading about their deal to show Warwick content, it shows the importance of knowing what people are saying about you or your organisation on the web.

I know we all occasionally do a little vanity search for our name on Google, but ideally you'd have new results sent to you when they happen.

You can sign up for Google Alerts and get emails, or use RSS to monitor Google News

Do you know what people are saying about you online?

Warwick media on blinkx?

Follow-up to Google news feeds about Warwick from Kieran's blog

Following my subscription to all mentions of ‘warwick university’ on Google News, I came across this…

blinkx Brings World Leaders, Top Economists and Best-Selling Authors Into Your Living Room With Searchable Speeches From Cambridge and the Ivy League=

Top tier universities from around the world are making content from the arts and humanities, as well as social, biomedical, and physical science
disciplines, available through the partnership. Beyond Cambridge and
Princeton, lectures from institutions including UC Berkeley, Harvard,
Middlebury College, Columbia University, Washington State University, the
University of Glasgow, University College London, the University of Warwick
and the University of York will now be searchable through http://www.blinkx.tv.

If you do a little search on Blinkx and you do indeed find some Warwick videos, but they all seem to be from Warwick TV, the student society. Now, I’m not saying this is not good content (in fact some is great), but it is not quite what you were lead to believe you’d find after reading the press release. I wonder how many other of the universities in that list are actually publishing academic content?

Google Video and Warwick 40th fireworks

Writing about web page http://video.google.com/videopreviewbigall?q=warwick&page=1&docid=-2757775609055171471&urlcreated=1124438207

Some techy soul has been good enough to upload their video of University of Warwick 40th Anniversary Gala Concert fireworks display to Google Video

For anyone who wasn't their and doesn't believe how great the display was…take a look. If you've got any videos of your own you want hosted for free and want the world to see, just upload them. Warwick Shootout entries anyone?
