The Dream is Dead

Due to increased activity on this blog which has offended me greatly, this blog and its blogger is entering a period of hiatus.

Since people are unable to reply in uniformed manner, stereotyping me as I stereotype others, and being pursued across the blog system for ideas, and ideas only, I am closing this blog for a while.

I am tired of trying to explain my points and my own beliefs, and just having them trodden on. If you wish to explain your own beliefs in a uniform manner, please make an entry on your own page.

If anybody wishes to discuss my views and listen then contact me via this blog.

For now the period of inactivity is now effective.

This is the second time I have had to close this blog due to offensive material towards me. I hope all commentators are happy. You've squashed another dream.

  1. Long live the dream! You know you can lock the entry to comments and change your preferences so it doesn't show up on the front page.

    You should be revising anyway!!

  2. Dont do it dude, I always enjoy your opinions, eventhough I dont agree with some of them (eg Muse being "Fit–tastic"). I dont think anyone really tramples on your opinions, just has the desire to voice their own views on your topics.

Come back to the land of the bloggers, the world will be such a small place without your consumately entertaining input.

"to sleep: perchance to dream, now theres the rub" – you should sleep on it and Im sure your dreams of Karlifornication will come back, if not then they should :)

  3. You deleted a comment! I saw you!

  4. Well my apologies if I offended you but I figured from your rather outspoken and head–strong attitude that you could take a little heated debate.
You're surely aware that your posts will wind some people up the wrong way and they will tend to respond in a more aggressive manner that you might like but that's the nature of it. It'd be a very boring place if everyone just agreed with everyone else all the time.

At the end of the day at least you're making people think, considering alternate viewpoints that they might not otherwise think about. After doing so they might still decide you're wrong and want to give you something to think about, but thems the breaks, as they say.

I'm struggling here as on one hand I honestly do not want to offend you as you'll probably just delete this anyways, as is your right. But on the other hand I want to yell at you to get over it, it's just an arguement on the internet, it's not a big deal – your beliefs are yours and just because a bunch of us don't agree with them doesn't make them any less valid. But it's human nature to question everything, and I'm sure you'd agree that is a good thing.

I feel I have to take the gloves off – get over yourself, grow a thicker skin, stop caring about what a bunch of twats on the internet think about you and what you believe in and stand up for yourself and tell them why you're right and they're wrong. As that's the only way anyone ever learns.

And again, apologies if I caused any offense.

  5. Thanks for the apology. There was only a certain blogger that forced me to my hiatus. Its wasnt you. Dont worry.

Of course I love heated debates. Thats why I blog. But this 'blogger' was enforcing the idea that I was totally wrong. And to be told that one is wrong is worse than just being disagreed with.

Also someone starting throwing insults. Thats where I draw the line.

    I will return soon.

  6. Well, given I had a very reasonable comment deleted from here last night, I reckon that "certain blogger" was me. And do I feel the need to apologise? No, absolutely not. If you're big enough to have an attitude like yours – pitying people for their careers and putting yourself above others because you can't "hold intellectual conversation" with them – then you should be man enough to take the criticism which comes in return.

Spitting the dummy out and deleting your blog and then deleting comments which point that out, just because people disagree with you, only serves to make you look weaker and more unable to hold a reasonable debate. Throwing insults (i.e. saying "fuck you") at people who disagree with you is not a way to hold a debate if you want people to respond to you in a mature and reasonable way. If you want to have a strong opinion about something, fine. But when it's as strong and frankly as insulting as you put across in the last couple of days, don't expect people not to respond strongly. If you don't want them to, switch off your commenting permissions. Simple.

What kind of a reaction were you expecting?

  7. And by "insults" if you mean the insults I threw around in Miranda's blog – I apologised for that and took everything back. I admit that was an error of judgement. I don't believe I insulted you in yours, unless you count having a different opinion as an insult.

    04 Jun 2006, 20:39

  8. to be fair, i don't think that anyone started throwing any real insults until you said "f**k you" to someone with very little provocation so don't make it sound like you're the victim. obviously it's fine to have your own personal views the kind of which have been expressed on miranda's blog and your own, but was it really necessary to post them publically on the internet? they were worded in a very arrogant and patronising way which seemed to be deliberately designed to inflame people which didn't seem to be necessary. when i'm told that music, something i've spent my whole life doing is as creative, artistic and useful as going drinking, i'm bound to get annoyed. maybe instead of throwing the teddies out of the cot and claiming that we've "squashed another dream" (?!?!?!?!?! i'm not one to judge but a blog seems like a pretty crap dream, really), you should continue posting but just be more selective about the subjects you post on or the words with which you compose your entries. also, if you were so offended by the criticism and decided to stop blogging, why create another entry full of such overly dramatic statements as this? i sense a bruised ego might have wanted stroking better…....

  9. oh god all the emotion is overwhelming, you poor poor man, this must be soul–destroying. hey now, hey now – don't dream it's over karl.

  10. This whole affair is rather cringeworthy

    04 Jun 2006, 22:34

  11. Thank you Joe. I just want to stop my inbox being flooded with these comments.

Just everyone leave me be for a bit. Please. Respect that at least.

I just want my inbox to look normal at the moment.

    04 Jun 2006, 22:39

  12. Well there's two things you can do to stop that.

    1) Change your blog preferences so it doesn't send you an e–mail every time you receive a comment.
    2) Change your commenting permissions to "me only".

  13. Anon

Does anyone else think Karl is being ever so slightly dramatic?

    05 Jun 2006, 00:37

  14. Yes. I didn't see the original entry to which Karl refers, but I saw the entry on Miranda's blog which I believe stemmed from it (and which has also subsequently been deleted). If his beliefs were anything like hers I'm not terribly surprised they were "trodden on". Incidentally, refusing to enter into readonable debate doesn't do a great deal to add credence to such beliefs either. Or won't these people condescend to enter into an argument with us poor simple science students, since we would be unable to comprehend their points of view, coming from a plane which is so far above us?
