Back to graft …

Well it’s been back to solid graft today on the MBAHRM and it’s going very very slowly.
Broke my mobile as well yesterday which has meant the distraction of buying a new one on eBay, does anyone know why eBay people refuse to deal with you unless you’ve got lots of positive feedback? Are they like that in “normal” shops? Do they ask the assistant how many times they’ve sold a particular good or service? Then when you look at the feedback it’s all the same in any case – everyone self congratulating “A+++++ Best eBay person ever!” type comments that aren’t really that helpful if you think about it – especially as everyone seems to get the same effusive comments!
Ho hum – perhaps I just don’t understand the eBay generation.

Received my first comment on a posting today as well ;-) That’s made me happy.

Wow – Project Management Induction hurt …

Well the induction period has finished for Project Management – but it was harder than I imagined and took a lot of time up. Hence not very many postings to my blog – sorry! Uploaded some new pictures today of the kittens so at least they are happier! Rain and more rain is depressing me but got a couple of days of solid MBA ahead of me – so the weather can be bad! I’ll let you know how I get on.

Getting through Strategic Advantage

Managed to complete another lesson of Strategic Advantage last night and post a few things in the Project Management Induction area. So feeling quite happy with myself. Hope to complete another SA lesson today which would put me half way through this course.
Need to crack on with some tutor marked assignments and submit them and then all will be a lot lot better.

Not really a 5 star film but certainly worthy of 4

Writing about web page http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product//B0002LUB38/ref=cm_aya_asin.title/026-2198528-3840423

4 out of 5 stars

As the other reviewers point out this film is not well documented on the sleeve blurb. Indeed the redeeming feature of the film is the expansive photography as the plot is extremely thin and not what the cover would lead you to expect.
Thus the storyline allows the film to explore more visual aspects and the interplay between the characters outside of the flimsy plot is refreshing and a joy to watch. A good film with excellent photography but not quite 5 star material for me.

Fantastic primer for anyone starting in Project Management

4 out of 5 stars

A fantastic easy read introduction to Project Management. Allowed most of my direct report Project Managers to get to grips with the basis and be just using this book got on and passed the ISEB IS Project Management qualification as well.
Great for anyone considering taking up Project Management or in the early years of their project management career. Nothing really here for the experienced professional but excellent value if you want to accredit your learning with a qualification. Just shy of 5 stars as it’s a work related book and not one I’d read for pleasure.

Well keeping up the postings so far …

Well I’ve managed to post regularly this week both to my blog but also to the Project Management induction site which hopefully will mean I pass the induction period.
Realised after posting this year’s subjects that I never posted what I learnt last year:
Accounting and Financial Management
Organisational Behaviour
Market Analysis
Operations Management
Modelling and Analysis for Management

It was a tough year especially having to relearn how to learn but as I’ve said previously I did manage to pass part A … so hoping for similar success this year.

Current subjects of study for Part B

Thought it would be a good idea to let you know what I’m studying this year as my part B …
Strategic Advantage – compulsory
Inforrmation Systems Strategy – compulsory
Project Management – virtual study module
Management Accounting
Human Resource Management

I’m not following the Warwick study schedule as it expects even work throughout the year and splits off at funny stages. Last year (and this hopefully) I’m studying modules until I get to a tutor marked assignment – at which point I submit this and move to next module. I think this worked very well last year so I’m repeating again this year.
