November 18, 2005
November 4th – I email in my request for counselling form. Waiting time is 14/15 days at this point (I can't remember which).
November 7th – I receive a reply stating that they'll contact me when they have space to offer me an appointment.
November 18th – The silence is remarkably deafening
I think it's pretty safe to say that people who require a counselling appointment, for varying reasons, may well be feeling particularly emotionally vulnerable, and thus it's perhaps not the best idea to just ignore them. If there are no spaces available fair enough, but it would at least be common sense to tell those applying for counselling this, rather than acting as if they've lost your form down the side of a filing cabinet.
Then again, maybe it's expecting too much for this university to actually fund an adequate counselling service that would help students in trouble in the same term that they asked for help. It makes far more sense to plough money into pointless white elephant projects, and into shifting humanities subjects to the far side of campus.
And of course, lets not forget that though my email inbox may be free from counselling appointments, it's jam-packed with emails from law firms, banks, marketing companies and even christian summer camps, all delighted that the warwick careers service gives them the chance to spew their nonsense directly to warwick students.
