What are we searching for?
During undergraduate study, on one of the developmental economics lectures, the prof gave us the following paragraph which was in Thomas Mann's book "Die Buddenbrooks":
The 1st generation, who were born and grown up in the poor, search for money and treasury. The 2nd generation, who were born and grown up in rich families, search for social status. However, the 3rd generation, who were born and grown up in rich and high-social-class families, are searching for MUSIC!
It is somehow true.
Eventually, i understand why he was always for Art when i applied for British universities. Espeically after visiting British Museum, i become more aware that where my interest really lies. However, i am not truly the 3rd generation, so art is not everything in the world.
Maybe my children will be luckier than me. i want one of my children to be an artist or to study history of art.
Art makes the world more colorful and fantastic than it looks like.
As for me, what am I searching for?
i'm always struggling and will still struggle and get very painful from that.
Hope there is a way out for me.
