Three letter words

Bands with three letter acronyms as their name:-

  • ABC
  • ELO
  • KLF
  • OMD
  • REM
  • UFO
  • XTC

But what’s puzzling me is that I have albums by all of them (except UFO, obviously. That’d be stupid.) Why are three letter bands massively over-represented in my record collection?

  1. UFO’s 1978 live album Strangers in the Night is worth owning.

    What’s wrong with UFO?

I’m (a) just not a UFO person, and (b) casually dismissive of things I don’t like. Isn’t everyone?

I love REM and apparently their latest album is very good. They’re are the best band I’ve seen live and this includes the Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin who I also love but I think REM have the edge as far as live performance goes, Michael Stipes voice is so full of integrity. Talking of The Rolling Stones I saw their film Shine a Light last weekend which I thought was excellent, I think Mick Jagger is such an incredible performer and it reminded me what a great musician he is too when he sang “As Tears go By” which I think is one of the most perfect songs ever written, I have the Marianne Faithful version of it on my Ipod which is who I think he wrote it for and she sings it beautifully. My favourite REM song is “Low” I think, I love so many it’s hard to choose.
