First Road Ride of the Year

The clocks went back and the sun came out ! So I did my first road ride of the year (after a few mountain bike rides over the winter and the usual turbo training). Didn’t go too bad either – averaging 19.4 mph. Back was a stiff as a board so time to get even more intense with the exercises or it won’t survive the season.

Sunday 30th March: 19.4 mph for 2o miles – Warwick, Cubbington, Offchurch Bascote, Harbury, Whitnash, Warwick

Also, the Cycling World Track Champs came to an end. Team GB were supreme getting 9 golds and 2 silvers. They’re playing it down for the olympics though….

Cycling Media Links

Thought I’d start adding some cycling related media on the web:

Check out The Bike Show on Resonance FM – some interesting stuff here on all aspects of bike culture. In particular good shows were: Hanging with the Trixie Chix, Fixed Fever, Graeme Fife’s life in cycling and The Hour Record with Michael Hutchinson.

If you want to see some scary cycling in traffic, Lucas Brunelle’s videos are a must.

Also, how about a bit of Bicycle Samba:

Summary of the Year

End of my first comeback time trial racing season for me and it's been quite poor with one exception. Summary of my times below for the club TTs I did this year. First and last 10 show no improvement ! To be fair though, the weather has been terrible for racing. Also, failed to keep this blog up to date!

Did win the club's Ted and Doris Trophy though with a fair bike and a good 4 mile run in 25 min 18s.

Try to improve the bike next year. Just today though I beat my record speed into work  - now 20.9 mph. Fastest back this year was 21.1 mph. Ho hum, is cycling really the joy of my life ?

What's the point of this blog ?

It started out as training record (mainly my 11 m each way commute to work) but as I am not getting any faster (small children / no time) I now plan to add musings and links on cycling in general as well (well, maybe once a year). My glory days were back in the 90s (before a back op) when at least I could do a sub-hour 25m TT. But it’s still all about the bike…
