It’s now February, so we’ve passed the 31st January Self-Assessment Tax return filing deadline, but not without a strike!
On Wednesday I (and most of my fellow co-workers at HMRC) boycotted the office, and took part in the industrial action about department restructuring, pay and lob losses. Now, as a Fixed Term Temporary Appointment I am aware that really it wasn’t my battle, but if I had been a permanent member of staff I would have gone on strike anyway. I felt it was important to show the bosses that be that members of the staff are invaluable and that reducing their numbers by 1/4 by 2012 would be stupid. Everyone knows that HMRC is inefficient, with an enormous backlog of work, so surely reducing staff isn’t the way out of the hole?
Anyway, we all returned to work on Thursday, and now we’re taking action short of a strike, which means a bit of a go slow – not a problem, I wasn’t up to doing much work on Thursday anyway!
