The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood,and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

弗罗斯特这首诗，是我留学时学到的第一首英文诗。
对我而言，它伴随着许许多多的回忆。

人生如旅，想象一下：

在一片金黄色的树林里，你的眼前突然出现了两条岔路，
但很遗憾的是，你无法同时涉足。
所以你站在路口，久久伫立，
向着其中一条极目望去，直到它辗转蜿蜒，消失在丛林深处。

这两条路看起来何其相似。
所以你犹豫、踌躇着，
但最后，你却选择了另外一条路，
因为它荒草萋萋，看起来更渴望你踏入。
或许，召唤你的不是路，
而是心。

回想起来，我们自己的生活中，总是有许多如此的瞬间。
在晨光的沐浴下，两条看似相差无几的道路，被埋在落叶之下，不曾有人走过。

于是你安慰自己：把身后的路，留给另一天吧！
但其实你很清楚，今天你所踏上的这条路，
必将连接着更多未知的道路。
今天的这个路口、这个选择回不去了，
或许也无需再眷恋。

多少年以后，
当你想起这个早晨，这段往事，
或许你会轻声叹息。
当时那片美丽的、金黄色的树林，为你展开了两条路：
而你，选择了人迹更少的那条，
也从此决定了一生的道路。
