I hate the stupid bag of shit (or bags of shit) responsible for the wave of graffiti on campus

I hope they die with spoons in their eyes.

I reeeeally hate graffiti; such a senseless and selfish crime.

  1. It's funny how in thousands of years future archeologists will dig up bits of our walls with mindless graffiti on such as "so in so is a prick", yet the graffiti found in ancient greece and early egypt is much more interesting.

    It's not always senseless… (link)

Still i bet warwick graffiti bee–lows.

  3. ooo actually Edd I kinda agree. We were talking about this before and we decided that there's some graffit at the end of our street which is quite artistic but still I would feel much better about it if I knew it were there by permission of the people whose house it's on.

If they build some wall around south leam (which I'm sure is the long term plan from the council) then fair enough people can vent their anger and graffit away at the injustice…. though knowing south leam it'd probably all be references to drugs or cocks.

By the by… 'stud' and other such hilarious comments on modern culture were the expressions scrawled on the road signs etc by these delicious individuals so I'm not too impressed…but to be fair I am hard to impress if it doesn't have references to drugs or cocks.

  4. I'm fairly sure I remember some graffitti from my first year on the side of the sports hall, I cannot remember who the quote was from but it was some pretty high–brow stuff. I was amused as it was so perfect for the environment.

  5. Graffiti at the end of the road… would that happen to be the giant aubergine type thing that looks like something from Stoppit And TidyUp ? Because that's fantastic. :–) Really brightens up the road.

Warwick graffiti? Substantially less fantastic. Tossers.

  6. I have the best book: "Graffitti in the Athenian Agora" its so awesome (ISBN: 87661–633–3 buy it its so fun!) the best one in the entire book is this all caps scrawl that overlaps the letters, the translation is 'Cheap wine'. Love it!

So graffiti is shit now, but giggles for future archeaologists!

  7. I noticed on the pavement near the All Saints Church in Leamington someone has drawn a massive penis. Although I think it's scandalous, its sheer audacity made me smile.

But the graffiti of the signs at Warwick is the lowest of the low.

  8. I think it depends on the environment and the motivation behind it. I´m in Rio at the moment, and everyday on my bus to work I pass what in Europe would be beautiful buildings, which are delapidated and absolutely covered in grafitti–there seems to be some kind of contest here–see how impossible a place you can find to grafitti, and leave your tag on it. I saw one beautiful 1930s Art Deco building with tags above every window. And that´s a real shame–it´s a senseless destruction of beauty. Then again, there are real social problems here, and the grafitti here is a reflection of it. Many of the things that are written express frustration at the government and wishes for peace. Unemployment is incredibly high here, so the grafitti everywhere kind of reflects it. It doesn´t seem out of place. Which kind of makes any grafitti in Warwick seem particularly senseless.

  9. There's a distinction to be drawn between grafitti and tagging. The stuff on the Warwick sign on the way into campus is just mindless tagging. As has already been pointed out there's plenty of decent grafitti around.

Right, I obviously haven't seen Warwick tagging but it sounds pretty meaningless and irritating. There's nothing worse than mediocre vandalism… I doubt anyone resident at Warwick has anything real to complain about. Any fans out there? Probably not.

  11. Ooh guess what I read today which I didn't know before – graffiti is a plural, and there exists a singular: 'graffito'.

    Wowie zowie.

I hope this little graffito on your blog means I've tagged it.

  12. hehehe yeah I saw that too when I checked on how to spell graffiti!

Outside U2s recording studio in Dublin there used to be a wall with a big space scene, it looked great! And all the fans would come and scribble messages to the band on the wall, that I enjoyed reading… I dunno 'bout Bono though, cos the last time I walked down that way it had been painted grey… though about 8 years had passed.

As you head into Brum on the train, there is some graffiti that reads "VELVET UNDERPANTS" with a picture of a pair of Y–fronts between the 2 words, and though it perhaps doesn't rate highly on the artistic side of things it always makes me smile… it's on the left if you're looking for it.

  14. Didn't Dublin corporation knock down U2's studio not long ago? Vandals…

    01 Jun 2006, 20:28

  15. …actually the picture of the underpants is at the end of the word underpants not in the middle. It's me mind playing tricks!

They might have knocked it down, cos I was literally walking through a building site at parts with signs that read " NO UNAUTHORISED PERSONS BEYOND THIS POINT" and pictures of high–vis jackets and men in hats, and big trucks rumbling along… I thought they were just rejuvenating Grand Canal Dock, this was nearly a year ago, so it could have been knocked down.

  16. that should be "I thought they were just rejuvenating Grand Canal Dock and the Quays
