Revenge part II
With our players hyped up for a good match, the Isoc boys turned up a full half an hour late. The match began at half past the hour with Jack Flash going immediately on the offensive, with Mark latching on to a loose ball, and playing Piers in to score from close range (which, you would think, is easy. More later). This was Piers' first goal since the last meeting of these two sides in 2 months ago. Isoc United came back strongly and managed to tot up two goals before the interval, despite the excellent efforts of a refreshed defence, under the supervision of Dave, a brilliant goalkeeping effort from our on loan keeper, Chris of My Lovely Horse, and, as usual, John up front giving 110% effort. Going into half time 2–1 down didn't dampen the spirits, Ed gave out orders for Mark to hang back and shore up the defence, which he did with superb finesse. On one foray forwards taking on most of the Isoc team, he found Ed with only the keeper to beat, if he'd have done what Piers did in the first few minutes, that would have been 2–2, but Ed put the ball over, to shouts of "it's not rugby!" and something irrepeatable from Mark, close to "you f@"£%"^g grrr…" Mark need not have worried, but he wasn't to know that he was to seal the fate of this game in the coming minutes. Jack Flash went piling forwards and hit the post up to four times in this period, which lifted the team well. While our newest loan signing was keeping the Isoc tally to two, Mark turned swiftly on the ball and found himself past the keeper, thinking to himself, "good job I'm not Ed, or this would be going to Canley centre" he slotted the ball away with ease. Soon after Mark substituted himself, Jack Flash battled on, but to no avail. Asking to be put back on, Mark attacked with the whole team, Rich having Piers, John and Mark to pass to, he chose the unmarked utility player at the back post, he unleashed a pacy finish past their stricken goalkeeper. Moments later full time was called, however Isoc weren't happy with the amount of time played, after all this game was for a Champions League place. After much arguing, Jack Flash reluctantly agreed to play the final 2 minutes, at the start of which, a beautiful "training ground" (if we had one) move, in which Mark passed the ball through Rich's legs to a running John, resulted in his shot cannoning off the post. Seconds later, a goalmouth scramble resulted in Mark clearing off the line followed by our goalkeeper clawing the ball away, straight down the other end of the pitch, Rich rounded the keeper, and slotted the ball home for his second in two appearances. Despite the "stoppage time" played, and Jack Flash hitting the post four times, they came home with a fabulous win. Ed Green's men look sure to finish in a plate position next week, but indoor practice is going to have to be a priority for the outdoor team, John and Piers experiences in last years competition as indoor regulars is going to be vital.
