Match 1 – 21st October 2005: Jack Flash v RRRRs

Jack Flash's patchy showing does just enough…

The first game of the season was a nervous encounter, with new players James and Raj coming into the squad during captain Ed Green's one-year loan to Metz. The newcomers were welcomed into the side alongside Piers, Mark, Rob and John. Due to a continuing lack of a goalkeeper John kindly volunteered to take a spell between the sticks. The temporary custodian proved to be a good choice and pulled off some good saves, keeping Jack Flash's 1 goal advantage for most of the first half. Raj coolly finished for JF's first goal of the season and Piers added another. RRRRs came back in force towards the end of the first half, and managed to turn the scoreline around in their favour 3–2.

The emergence of John from Jack Flash's goal into an attacking force paid off excellently, with my personal man of the match managing to score 2 in quick succession. Mark added to the tally with a left foot volley straight down the middle, which the keeper should have saved, before James managed to make the game safe for the challengers. Jack Flash now lie just one place below the plate qualifying zone in thirteenth, and hope to secure their place in the plate zone with a good win at the same time next week.
