Today I signed up and attended for the Reading and Note making skill development class.
And the first thing I would like to confess is that, being in that class made me feel good. Not just because of the fact I signed up for it and attended, or coz the content and materials were so helpful and valuable, but because, for the first time, I didn't feel like a stupid idiot. I realized that when it came to reading and note making, all the problems that I faced, well... there were others just like me... And believe me it really does make you feel better.
Today's class gave some really great tips, strategies and ideas for effective reading ad note making methods.
One of the most important things I learnt was that I really did not need to close read at all times. Scanning, Skimming methods could be used. These methods were explained and they seem to be very helpful. I will be trying it out tonight.
Note making was fantastic as well. For a person who ended up copying the text rather than make 'shorter' more 'comprehensive summarise, this method was the perfect solution. The 'Cornell method' seems very effective, although one needs to be very methodical and organized and remember to file the notes by the end of the day or week.
One last thing before I stop, the class was also loads of fun.. as it was interactive and exercises that were given helped remember the techniques as well. But still I need to practice them.
So I hope these techniques will help me get my reading and note making on the right trek!
See you after I have had a go at it!
