Who's the decision–maker?
Reading a book, I came across the following phrase of John Atkinson, “If you don’t run your own life, someone else will”. And it is quite true! Our whole life is a decision-making procees, but the decision-maker may differ. In other words, most of the times we are the ones who make our own decisions and form our destiny. However, there are times that other people make the decision for us and we accept them.
This fact is also true at many companies. And I think that both cases prevail at the same rate. For example, usually the senior management team is the one who makes the decisions and the rest of employees have to follow. Other times, external issues and trends may determine the decisions of the company, leaving less flexibility and ownership for the final decision.
Thus, we can be in either case, the decision-maker or the decision-recipient. The question though is which one will you pick...?
Interesting entry.
Just wanted to say that not only people will make decisions for us when we let them, but they always will do that! That’s why it is important to be aware of that and keep making your own decisions – unless we want to live life that’s beyond our control. It’s quite convinient and works for some, but not for me, life’s just only one and i’m doing it my way :D

I think at different stages in life, we will all find ourselves at both ends of the divide, making decisions and having to accept the decisions of others as they affect us.

It is the fact that we are not able to control and make all the decisions ourselves. However, i also believe that if you know what is the right direction for you, then it’s your responsibility to push for it. It’s also true that sometimes it’s the world around us that limit the our choices, but again, it’s also our responsibility to plan for the future and apply these decision- making tools and techniques in order to be prepared for the risks and costs that may occur in the future.

Who we are or what we have today is a result of past decisions made by ourselves or by people or situations around us. But knowledge brings enlightenment so now that we have learnt about robust decision making hopefully we should be able to make better quality decisions today which will reflect in our future.
