You are cordially invited…
Tuesday 28 February, 12pm. H204.
A lunchtime seminar with the following on the menu, prepared lovingly by yours truly:
Under the Beech: Representations of the Poet's Existence in the Bucolics of Virgil and Petrarch.
Promises to be delicious, I'm sure you'll all agree.
This sounds interesting Ian. I shall try to attend, though circumstances outside of my control may hinder my chances (i.e. the dissertation deadline's coming up, and I have yet to start my work on Calpurnius).
Incidentally, I have an interview with Charles Martindale come Monday. This, no doubt, will be either stimulating or terrifying. Depending on my success, I anticipate a bit of both.

So you may come, may not. I'll make volauvants for one extra: can always tupperware them.
If you're not too far along already with your Calpurnius chapter I have a book out of Bristol University library with a chapter on Latin pastoral after Virgil that discusses him directly. I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult to get you a photocopy of the relevant pages if you want.
And I wish you all the best for your interview Monday; sure there's no need to be apprehensive [you're meeting with academics all the time, after all — just ones that are familiar to you]. Are you planning on going to the seminar on Thursday?

Thanks, I'd appreciate the chapter. There's so little written on Calpurnius that you have to grab what you can. I was in the same situation with Columella, but thankfully that chapter's written, handed in, and awaiting judgement from Andrew. Shall I pick it up from you on Thursday? Alternatively you could leave it in my pigeon-hole. I'll be sure to reimburse you any costs.
It occurred to me that last night that Latin Literary Texts is taught with Dan Orrells at 1:00PM, Tuesdays in H2.04. It's not timetabled in, as it was originally held at 5:00PM, but you should probably check with Josie and if necessary reschedule (lest the blogging public flock to the right room at the wrong time…)

To tell the truth, the business about 1pm in H204 was somewhat spurious; Zahra has told me that it will be "Tuesday lunchtime" and I just assumed that 204 would be the alloted venue because it seems most suitable. I will confirm the time and room when I get the word myself.
I'm afraid I meant to bring the book [Pipes of Pan by Thomas Hubbard, if you're interested] on to campus today to photocopy but forgot to actually do so. I'll look to copy it tomorrow for you and leave it in your pigeon hole; we can settle up on Thursday, I imagine, so be sure to bring all your spare coppers with you.
Cheers.
