CSS & Web Design

After taking a look around the web development site Sitepoint.com over the weekend, it seemed clear that using standard tables for page layout is officially old-school. As such, I spent some time browsing for tutorials, fired up Dreamweaver and redid my dadís business site using CSS. Not being a complicated layout to begin with, the process didnít take long. Still, the code is much tidier now and future updates should be relatively easier.

For anyone looking for some info (and so I donít lose the links) here are some useful sites I came across.

I could have told you that CSS > Tables, oh wait I think I did :P

I bet Dreamweaver did it all for you seeing as you said the process didn't take long; web designing in notepad is far from quick :P

  2. Dreamweaver allows you to the code and the design simultaneously. As opposed to updating your pages in one notepad window, saving, updating your stylesheets in another notepad window, saving, then refreshing a third browser window to see changes. Vaguely remember someone (looking at you Overdo) using a cough Template cough. Not everyone's a n00b :p

Hey that template ruled! If I was going to make my own design, it would have looked identical to that :P

  4. It should be mentioned that Dreamweaver doesn't display CSS sites correctly.

  5. The alignment of containers seems to be erratc in Preview Mode (despite appearing OK in Firefox & IE). Stuff that's supposed to be centered isn't centered, and so on. Additionally, borders aren't displayed on containers. Other problems might have been evident were the layout more complex.
