And so the Olympics
And what sporting event would be complete without terrible bbc jokes and puns?
So far the worst:
‘a countdown Carol Vorderman would be proud of..’ – particularly terrible because she was recently effectively sacked.
‘Not so much House of Flying Daggers as House of Falling Stars.’ – terrible
Meanwhile the fireworks and drumshow were great.
Edit And sports presenters should probably shy away from broad cultural and historical statements – Zheng He is not Zhang Yi

[Skip to the latest comment]I friend of mine swears he heard a BBC commentator say after a Chinese athlete made a slight error in the gymnastics “There’s the first chink in the armour”.
I don’t know if I believe this. The idea of a Chinese gymnast making a mistake is a little far fetched.

That’s naughty. I don’t think the press would have let them get away with saying that.

I don’t know if anyone remembers a radio presenter making a racist remark about a footballers. I won’t go into what was said but it was not good. There was a big issue (rightfully) about that incident.

does anyone know the name of the BBC radio presenter who asked a taxi firm “not to send a Asian driver” and had faced the sack?

Sam Mason
That was Sam Mason made the comments while ordering a taxi for her 14-year-old daughter who she said would be “freaked out” by a turban-wearing driver.

That’s quite out of order. I’m sure it was regretted. There’s no room for racism.

Isn’t it quite funny that most of these remarks seem to be coming from BBC. Not a very good example is it? Anyway, whether it’s from BBC or Tom/Dick/Harry – There’s no need for it! It’s just asking for trouble!
James.
