For a long time I didn’t understand it when people talked about “the naughties”, as much as I thought about it there didn’t seem to be anything particularly naughty about the last decade, quite the reverse really. It’s only very recently that I realised they were saying “noughties”. I had to wait until the end of the decade to get the joke. I suppose it’s not really meant to be a joke when I think about it.
