Bridget Jones: Edge of Reason
Four years on, I did wonder how this film would follow on from the success of its predecessor. In the 'Edge of Reason' Zellweger is more neurotic, more embarrassing and definetly bigger than she was at the end of the last film! Her relationship with Colin Firth takes a nose-dive, and her life unravels through a series of hilarious events before it lands the right side up.
As a follow-up it is open to criticism for being simply a watered down version of the first film. At times bitter-sweet, the film does draws on the same themes, humour and neuroses as before but I found it just as funny, and Zellweger on top form.
You'll have to read the 2nd book – the interview with Colin Firth is the best bit for me and (as discussed earlier) obviously missed out on the film.
It would have been quite good though in a confusing way – Colin playing Mark Darcy boyfriend, Bridget interviewing Colin Firth actor, being told not to mention Pride and Prejudice as he was promoting his latest film. With all the lead up of Bridget and friends playing the P&P clip of him coming out of the water over and over…
With the various strides in makeup, they could have done something to differ Mark Darcy from Mr Darcy of P&P, but Colin playing Colin in interview about another film? …tricky depth to pull off in a light way without some confusion no doubt…

Following on from our related discussion, I've googled it and it is Fitzwilliam…I'd have never have got that (but that does confirm it was mentioned).

nina
