Getting the following message was the end of one process and the start of another.
Manuscript ID ICIS-0521-2008 entitled "Hospitality Analysis of IS Innovation" which you submitted to the International Conference on Information Systems 2008, has been reviewed.
We are happy to accept your Research-in-Progress paper, subject to revisions. The paper presentation will take place during the ICIS 2008 Luncheon Poster session, Tuesday December 16, 2008, 12:00 - 13:30. (We will send detailed information on formatting your poster for presentation at a later date.)
It concluded a period of time when the kernel of the idea was still out there but with no idea of whether it would take off, germinate or whathaveyou.
It initiated another period of intense reflection and scrutiny, at what we thought we had, what we actually had, and what we might be able to do with it within the constraints of the ICIS format.

Shall we 'wake' IONA with a gathering Toners? To mark the passing of Ireland's own software first. So many firsts too! University spawned professorial entrepreneurship, EU R&D funding done good (Espirt), Ireland's biggest home grown success on the international stage. IONA's Orbix defined the market and field for common object request broker architectures (CORBA). A run away success built on the back of open standards (OMG, TOG). Software which bridged between different computing architectures, from legacy mainframe to miniscule real time operating systems, even, yes even COM-CORBA bridging.
But not only all of that stuff. IONA was FUN. As they say, the craic was mighty, it was young, intense, uncluttered, it had a scholarly leader who wrote software. It was just great, for a long long while.
