Welcome Home
Band: Coheed and Cambria
Location: NY
Track: 'Welcome Home'
A vastly underrated band verging on that dirty word – 'emo', Coheed and Cambria's sound has evolved since 2001 from intelligent experimental post-punk. Their commercial incarnation proves intelligence can be applied to hone the most stonking accessible sound you will hear this year. 'Welcome Home' entwines soaring strings with speedy yet intricate guitar riffs to create an epic Godzilla of a floor filler. Claudio Sanchez's vocals kick in at just the right moment, lacing the track with the unique edge that defines the band's sound. This is the watermark in a chameleon of a song that gets more layered every listen, touching base on everything from flamenco riffs to Slash-esque solos.
It's a shame more people aren't aware of the genius that is C&C, but hopefully soon as their latest offering gets heard this'll be rectified, and the message will spread like wildfire. My advice – hear this and then work your way backwards to see what you've been missing out on, and look forward to a fantastic new album!
'Welcome Home' is released 20th September.
