Start of Summer

It’s summer! Hey- hey, been going into dinner and it’s light outside, awesome. Wandered around Ipswich at 4-5pm and was very chilled watching everyone leave work (I love working shifts, get random times of the day off – although bit of a bummer that all my mates are at work (nice though when the weekend starts Friday morning and not evening, this weekend too actually)). Summer the time when, lets face it, women look all the better for Springtime wear. Am reminded of an old piece of advice – get your girlfriend in the Winter and it just keeps getting better as the year progresses – get her in the Summer….

Funny really as I seem to recall writing an entry saying how great going into Wintertime was – I guess I just enjoy the moment. Oh yes one negative of Summertime, it’s a right bugger having an office that runs on UST (Zulu time) when the rest of the world (including lunch/dinnertimes) works on Local (still start/finish on local times, just disorientating whilst in).

This time last year the centre of my life was a teacher (well trainee at that time) and I was in regular contact with 1 or two others, but only now do I feel the loss of these close contacts so poignantly – yes I’m faced with one of the great questions in life…

What the hell do I do with all these bloody Tesco vouchers??!!!

Erm, anything else? Well I’m approaching the end of my first stint in Ipswich now, start 4 months of Exeter soon (basically academic training at HQ), so I’m off (temporarily at least) before returnng for Aug-Nov.

There’s more to say I guess, but that’ll do for now. ‘Cept London this weekend, watch the HORR, then a birthday party, wahey!

edit: CAKE! CAKE!! There’s cake in the office! Hurrah! (Just thought I’d keep you all updated on the important events in my life ;) )

Notes on a small island…

Just to say I had another top night out in old London tahn the yesterday and as I wandered across Putney bridge I was surprised to see rather a lot of boats. It was of course the Womens HORR, something I’d completely forgotten about (despit knowing the date of the Mens HORR for ages, erm…). Anyway had a chat to a friend I saw on the bridge, used to be UWBC, which was cool. Then went to a pub to watch the rugby and got introduced to the gf of a friend who was from Portsmouth way which aided conversation a tad. Guess it does underline how it’s not that big a country – although both of the groups mentioned there do come from fairly small groups (rowers and the mil.).

Besides that not a lot to say, think I’ve figured out what has to be done on certain fronts, although time frame could run to months atm. Erm, nothing else really – been watching a bit of rock on music telly so I’ve renewed some of my musical tastes too(pocket full of CDs atm).

Anywho, should bugger off home and go for a run before the weather turns cruddy.

Weekend antics

Well, as ever I’ve little actual news to impart – so instead I shal rant about my recent activities and see if I actually mention anything pertinent.

Well firstly I’ve finished writing up my NVQ unit 1, which appears to me to be 2000 words of claptrap. Unfortunately as the boss is skiing atm I’m not entirely sure if what I’ve done is appropriate.

Went into Ipswich on Friday, it is indeed a little chavvy in places (there’re all these nice people at lunchtime wtf do they go on a saturday night???!) but I had a good night. Heck even had a girl chatting to me – first in a very long time – but as I’m not hanging around Ipswich much longer (for now) and I’m still basically in 2 minds about if I want another relationship right now, I wasn’t too fussed when she said she was leaving. Saturday began with the obligatory hangover, before wandering into town to sit in Starbucks and write the annual letter to my Mum for mothers day (well only been doing it 4 years now, but it’s a nice thing and beats a phonecall I reckon). Bought 2 dvds on Amazon one Pans Labyrinth +2 other films, and the other Season 1 Boston Legal, they’ve gone home – the letter says one’s hers the other’s mine her choice (Spannish horror/fantasy not her thing so I reckon BL).

Saturday evening I was sat in the dining room and one of the guys came over and asked if anyone was up for a visit to London. Was in two minds at first, but lets face it the more you put yourself forward the more you get out of life – so I went :)
Didn’t really know anyone there (heck only vaguely knew the guy who invited me, but everyone was really friendly (even had my job described as glamourous, although I’m slightly convinced the girl was nuts). Couple of bars then wandering around London till 3am looking for a bed/sofa/floor at one of a number of peoples houses.

Sunday, what a day! Up about ten, walked to a nice cafe by the side of Clapham Common and sat down for about the next 4 hours drinking coffee and tea and unashamedly watching a stunning number of beautiful women walk by (not that I would regularly, I was led astray damnit! Was a beautiful day though). Then played cricket for a bit (4 of us, 1 ridiculously good, 1 good, 1 bad, 1 bloody awful (a girl ;) ) – I was the bad one), which was fun. Then wander up to North Clapham to a pub to watch the rugby (England have been really mediocre all tournament, but that was an awesome game) – stayed there pretty late. Met some great guys, including a self employed merchant banker who was a nice bloke too and a Scandanavian helli instructor – last seen comatose on the back seats of the pub as we left.

[OK, leaving a guy absolutely off his face in a pub is bad (bar maids weren’t too impressed either – apologies) – but as was pointed out to me, he has a reputation of doing this a lot, knows London very well and is, let us say, well versed in survival skills and training]

So then it was last train home time and to bed. Did mean I’d broken the rule of three (nights in a row) so my system was a little screwed yesterday, but otherwise all is well.

Running didn’t happen on weekend and being rather delicate hasn’t happend this week so far either, but should sort that soon (1/2 marathon seems to get a day closer every 24 hours strangely).

Plans for future? Erm, well I’ll prob play next weekend or so by ear (heck it worked this weekend), plus at the end of the month I’ve got a party in London to go to. Seems I’m the only Warwicker to have confirmed so far (for shame! I’d have attended if it were 1/2 way up the country, admitedly it’s only a lil over 2 hours by train from here), but it should be cool, plus after the last weekend I’m a lot more confident about knowing practically no-one at first.

Ooh-eck, that was a lot. Later.

NVQ write up

Well I’ve been sat here all day in the office writing up some infernal paperwork for the NVQ I’ve got to complete as part of my training. It’s not that I dislike doing the actual stuff, heck it’s an NVQ level 4 – interesting stuff by and large (hardly NVQ1 woodwork here), it’s just that I’m not keen on writing it up. 2000 words for this unit shudder, best part of 2 days.

Heh, I remember the last time I ranted about writing loads, when I was going out with a wonderful young lady who could ‘accidentally’ write almost that much over a word limit, whilst I struggled on a few hundred per day. Yup you guessed it – art student ;)

Anywho, thats all I wanted to say, really just wanted to type something that required no thought and had no relevance to work. Besides that all goes swimmingly and I’m back on shifts for the next 2 days. It’s weird going from shifts to admin days – 8.5 hours seems like nothing after you’ve been doing 12and a bit hour shifts.

Anywho, it’s the end of day (hence why I can write this) so I’m going home (well to the mess at least)
