Compton Verney visit

I'm just reflecting on the last of three visits to Compton Verney and thought I would finally attempt a blog. It's something I have never done before, so please bear with me!

I really enjoyed the Compton Verney experience and feel that I have learnt so much. Over the three days, we were able to visit the galleries, learn about portraits and symbolism in them, draw and paint a self-portrait, learn about the LOTC manifesto and The Museum Network, create a Medium Term Plan as a group, do a powerpoint presentation, and how to generally create a cross-curricular and creative unit of work based on the themes of chairs, fruit and dragons using the museum as a resource. Phew!!!!

When I first discovered that 'chairs' was our theme, I had reservations to say the least and I thought we would struggle to come up with creative ideas for the MTP. However, as a group we came up with lots of ideas and walking around the Folk Art collection gave us much food for thought. I was amazed at how interested we were in the background of the chairs and the artwork, and the possibilities for cross-curricular links were endless. In fact, we had too many ideas to include in our presentation!

The visit was fun and inspiring and certainly enabled me to try things that I have previously shied away from, for example, producing my own art work and writing a blog!!! I enjoyed being put in the position of the children I will eventually teach and listening to the other group presentations. I feel I have benefitted from the experience of learning outside the classroom and think the knowledge Ive gained will really help my preparation for PP3, especially for the WCS portfolio and teaching of Art.

Thank you to Jo, Will and Sue for this worthwhile opportunity!
