Presentations – Plan, Prepare, Practice
Writing about web page http://www.slideshare.net
All the dissertations have been submitted (have they not), so its time to relax for a while, and then get ready for exams and presentation to your assessors. If you have seen a Steve Job's Apple Product Launch or Keynote speech, it looks really easy and effortless. But of course, to create that impression, it depends on Planning, Preparation, and Practice, and more Practice.
I thought these presentations may inspire you while you prepare, although of course you won't be able to use this many slides in your deck ;-)

London 2012 Olympic Tenders | Waste Management Services
Writing about web page http://www.ready-for-business.co.uk
Today the ODA also called for:
.... expressions of interest for the procurement of an operator to provide a waste management service for the Olympic Park. The service will comprise detailed design, construction and ongoing maintenance of a waste management service for venues and locations within the Olympic Park boundary.
So currently on the Ready for Business site we have 10 live tenders running. In addition, 74 other Olympic tender notices have been published to date, which is pretty good considering we are still just under five years away from the big event. But just to get it in perspective, compare that to the rest of the tender notices we have managed here at WMCCM (www.wmccm.co.uk). It's a massive 40,000 a year!

Great Graphics Animation – Trash the Flash
Writing about web page http://www.atomfilms.com/film/animator_vs_animation.jsp
I have been looking at various graphics applications recently to add to my growing toolbox of software applications. More about that soon, but I got distracted by this great piece of graphics animation. I first found it on Google Video, then YouTube, but found much higher quality versions on atom Films. Take a look at this where an angry stick man trashes the graphics application which created him. Sound on.
In the sequel, stick man returns with greater powers and breaks out to attack the desktop, Firefox and Instant Messenger. Does He meet his match? I'm sure this could run and run. Grant's Rant | Software Sussed 2007

Will It Blend – no way to treat an iPhone
Writing about web page http://www.willitblend.com/
How do you turn a beautiful iPhone ....
.... into this pile of iDust?
Well, a few seconds in a Total Blender, on the iSmoothie setting is all it took. Don't believe me, then take a look a this great piece of viral marketing, created by Blendtec. I hadn't heard of the Blendtec Total Blender until someone passed this on to me. It's featured on YouTube and on their own site www.willitblend.com, where you can see other insane ideas, or even submit your own "will it blend" challenges.
Did you notice the iPhone did manage to keep playing an mp4 video for a while before total blending?
To cap all this, they then sold the bits on eBay .....
... for $901 !! You got a new Total Blender included in the price.
They did get in trouble by breaking the eBay listing guidelines, so the original auction was pulled after 160,000 people had viewed it. The original title, "Apple iPhone and Blendtec Total Blender," had to be replaced with "Blended Apple iPhone and a Blendtec Total Blender."
The video has been seen over 1.7 million times, on YouTube alone. A great example of Marvellous Marketing. Pass it on.
If you want to try making your own smoothies this summer, I found the Total Blender and some recipe books on Amazon ....

London 2012 Olympics | Its a dirty job but someone has to do it
Writing about web page http://www.ready-for-business.co.uk
London 2012 | It's a dirty job - but someone has to do it
Or to put it another way, where there's muck, there's brass! Here is the latest tender invitation fro the Olympic Delivery Authority:
The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) invites expressions of interest for Primary sewer and pumping station contracts. The scope of the contract is for the design, supply, construction, commissioning and handover of a deep foul sewer and pumping station and certain associated secondary sewer works.
Deep foul sewer - doesn't leave a lot to the imagination! But with several 100,000 spectators, officials, TV crews, journalists visiting every day, most of them will have to 'visit the rest room', and leave a little message for London. Just look at the scope of the project.
A deep foul sewer and pumping station with the following approximate dimensions:
- one 1.8km long, 1200mm diameter foul water tunnel
- 16 shafts of between 3m and 6m in diameter
- one foul water pumping station, including rising mains to handle a peak flow rate of 1050 l/s.
That's a whole lot a s h 1 t !
1050 litres per second - can you measure p**h in litres or kilo's - suppose it depends on your brand of curry and beer.
Why 1050 - where is the extra 50 coming from?
Someone has got to do it - and I'm sure someone will make a lot of money from this tender, including the consultant who came up with extra 50 l/s.
This tender can be found on www.ready-for-business.co.uk which lists the current live Olympic tenders. All other tenders can be found on www.wmccm.co.uk
London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games | Design and Construction of Utility Infrastructure
Writing about web page http://www.ready-for-business.co.uk
London 2012 | Design and Construction of electricity, gas, water and telecommunication infrastructure
Further to my last post about the Utililities Industry Day at the ODA on 15th August 2007, I see there are now calls for companies to submit Expressions of Interest in order to start bidding for the contract.
The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) invites expressions of interest from companies with an interest in the design and construction of utility infrastructure for the Olympic Park, including electricity, gas, water and telecommunication infrastructure. Applicants have until 12:00 noon on 3 September 2007 to publish their response. The latest time and date that the ODA will action requests for clarification from applicants is 12.00 noon on 29 August 2007.
Looks like the submission deadline is more realistic - or perhaps everyone is on holiday?
