Don't Expect a boom from the Olympics : £30 Billion not enough then?
I see that there is some sceptism about the impact of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Assurances that the London Olympics in 2012 will create a boom in jobs, tourism and sports participation are unlikely to be fulfilled, warns a report commissioned by the capital's political leaders.
And this follows the revelations about the ever increasing costs of the games.
Well, I have been working on a project to help West Midlands companies get a slice of the action. When you look at the business opportunities arising from The Games and the related regeneration and legacy projects, you get a massive £30,000,000,000.
This isn't restricted to the large Tier 1 companies. There will be a multitude of hierarchical tiers of sub-contractors, and groups of companies collaborating in consortia - imagine a very large wedding cake with a 8 or 9 layers, and each layer is made up of many smaller cakes! I have heard estimates that 800,000 contracts will be let.
