BIRTHDAY!!!

Not that this is a convincing electoral argument, but it's my birthday today… If you see me at Boogie Nights buy me a pint. :D

Joint Degree Students, Tired of Being in LIMBO?

It’s time joint degree students STOPPED being NEGLECTED and UNDERREPRESENTED!!!!

As Undergraduate Social Studies Faculty Representative
I plan to:

  • Guarantee appropriate representation for joint degree SSLC reps so that they have access to SSLC's in all relevant departments.
  • Push for stronger links between departments so that joint degree students are no longer ignored.

Like what you see?

Then vote for action, vote Gabe for Undergraduate Social Studies Faculty Rep!!!

Social Studies Faculty “WHAT?”

A lot of students DON’T KNOW what the important posts up for election are all about and are TOO LITTLE INVOLVED in the Faculty’s DEMOCRATIC PROCESS.

As Social Studies Faculty Rep I plan to:

  • Promote the image of the Faculty Representative and of the SSLC system and increase student involvement in its workings.
  • Involve you, the students, so you are setting the agenda.
  • Maintain a proactive relationship with the students in the Faculty, organizing regular meetings with you to see what you want resolved.

Like what you see?

Then vote for action, vote Gabe for Undergraduate Social Studies Faculty Rep!!!

NEED A HAND?

Feeling LOST?
Need someone to turn to?
Sometimes you DON’T HAVE all the ANSWERS.
But the University is staffed by WORLD-CLASS EXPERTS who do.

As Undergraduate Social Studies Faculty Representative:

I PLAN TO REVIEW the PERSONAL TUTOR SYSTEM so that tutors ultimately become the main port of call for students in the Faculty for academic matters by:

  • Raising student awareness of the value of tutor feedback on work.
  • Pushing for greater availability of tutors and for increased meeting frequency.

IS ANYBODY OUT THERE?

There is a LACK of COMMUNICATION in
the Social Studies Faculty,
between STUDENTS and their TUTORS
and between DEPARTMENTS.

As Undergraduate Social Studies Faculty Rep I plan to:

  • Review the personal tutor system so that tutors ultimately become the main port of call for students in the Faculty for academic matters.
  • Ensure there is more cooperation between different SSLC's so that common issues may be more easily identified and tackled.
    Like what you see?

Then vote for action, vote Gabe for Undergraduate Social Studies Faculty Rep!!!

Can't find what you need?

CAN’T FIND WHAT YOU NEED?

The LIBRARY still
LACKS
the BOOKS and RESOURCES
necessary to meet the needs of a rapidly expanding Social Studies Faculty…

As Undergraduate Social Studies Faculty Representative:

I plan to PRESS the LIBRARY to MEET the GROWING DEMAND for RESOURCES from Social Studies Faculty students by:

  • Pushing to increase the number of books on SRC and 3-Day Loan so that more of us are able to use them, especially for those times and those texts for which there is proven demand.
  • Advocating that a greater number of resources be made available online.

Like what you see?

Then vote for action, vote Gabe for Undergraduate Social Studies Faculty Rep!!!

Generic Election Poster

You may have seen this around campus…

My Policies – A Summary

I plan to:

  • ENSURE there is more cooperation between different SSLC's so that common issues may be more easily identified and tackled. For instance, problems relating to feedback on assessed and non-assessed work could more easily be solved through cross-departmental consultation, even outside the Faculty.
  • WORK to improve timetabling. When I first arrived at the University the system of timetabling was extremely confusing, especially across departments as I was a joint degree student. I'll try to push to have timetabling system that is more centralized and has been simplified overall.
  • GUARANTEE that joint degree SSLC reps have access to SSLC's in all relevant departments. I found it strange that as a joint Honours student I was only able to influence the structure of half of my course by only being in one Department's SSLC. On a more general note, it's time joint degree students stopped being in a limbo between two or more departments. I will push for links between departments to be strengthened.
  • PROMOTE the image of the SSLC and increase student involvement in its workings. I want you to be setting the agenda. As a representative in the Economics Dept. SSLC I am trying to maintain a proactive relationship with the students in my course, organizing regular meetings with them to see what they want brought to the SSLC and I'll continue to do so on a Faculty-wide scale when elected.
  • PRESS the library to meet the growing demand for resources from Social Studies Faculty students. How many of us haven't been scouring for books on our reading lists to be flustered once again?!
  • REVIEW the personal tutor system so that tutors ultimately become the main port of call for students in the Faculty for academic matters. Again, the successful practices of certain departments could be mirrored by means of cross-departmental consultation.
