Feedback

Today, we experienced the powerful of feedbacks and their importance. Personally, I believe that if accepted genuinely they can catalyse our improvements since they lead to reflection. Doing so, we can critically examine our performance appreciating what we did well and what we could do better.

However, in this light it seems crucial, not only accept feedback in order to grow faster and more effectively, but also is important to reflect on the approach used while we are giving feedback, since a negative approach could eliminate all of the benefits that come from the feedbacks. In fact, who gives feedback should consider the emotional aspect of the process, thus, effective leaders who want to enhance the capability of their team should capture this occasion as an opportunity for communicating with their followers understanding their needs and wants, and therefore to guide them towards better future performance. In my view, this could be considered as an opportunity for growing at both personal and professional level, in fact, reflecting and evaluating our performance is crucial for understanding where we are and where we want to be.

EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP

During this week, I found myself several times reflecting on leadership and on its deeper meaning and this has led me to many thoughts. Well, even though I believe that there is not an absolute definition that can be considered satisfying in fully describing it, because of its multifaceted essence, I found one that I think contains most of the leadership features:

“The sum of all the intellectual and behavioural characteristics that allow the leader to bring people together for the same goal”.

In other words, leaders should understand that what drives people are feeling and emotions (intrinsic motivations) thus, listening and effectively communicating with them for building trust relationships, is imperative for an effective leadership. In this view, the psychological side of leadership become crucial! In fact, leaders have to show interest for their people and they have to help them in developing their intellectual and technical skills. Doing so, it will be a win-win game where the follower can genuinely give all of its best for achieving its goals and the leader will have an always more capable team that can achieve higher targets.

Do you guys think that it happens in the real word?

I believe that it should be interesting discussing about what happens in most companies around the word, considering also our previous experience. We could learn even more from this module, what do you think?

learn

Six Sigma helps organisations to control their processes and imporvement activities while at the same time facilitate the creation of a context that enables problem exploration. in this context team members will have the chance to look at the process and identify which problems occured and only after having understand the appropriate knwoledge about the process it is possible to change it if necessary. thus Six SIgma promote a problem solving mind set that is vital in the improvement process.

VOC

Six sigma place great emphasis on the development of the mind to identify what should be learned and how the individual con proceed with learning. The central idea behind six sigma is the if you can measure how many defects you have in process you can systematically figure out how to eliminate or reduce them and get as close a zero defects as possible.

Furthermore, six sigma is a customer focus process improvement that identifies critical customer requirements and incorporate them into process selection, and implementations. Thus listening the voice of the customer it is possible to aligned your process to customer needs, this will bring to higher organisational performance.

involve everyone

This week was extremely powerful, we learned a lot about Six Sigma, putting in practice the theories. However the most important thing that I learned is that the successful of any project depend primarily on people, therefore, without the involvement of the team it difficult that the project will have success. Moreover, we need to consider the company members because they will change their habit, so, we should engage and explain them why it is important to change. Doing so, they can understand that thanks to their efforts the company will gain many benefit and they will play a crucial role in accomplishing this goal.

change

In process improvement, it is important to understand and meet the customer requirement that is the ultimate goal of the process. However in doing so, the use of DMAIC cycle helps as in understanding the process, where we need to improve it and whether the changes that we want to apply will improve the process.

Moreover, in order to meet our desired improvement, it is crucial take into account that the system of profound knowledge. In fact, only through a fully understand of these theory we can see the whole picture and through knowledge we can considering the impact of the socio-emotional factor and the presence of variations, elements that play a crucial role in the process of change.

improve the process

Today we put in practice the process improvement system, we have learned that the most powerful thing that we can do when we try to improve the process is, learn about the process as first approach. This means that we need to look and understand the process, and only afterwards we can start to generate ideas that may improve the process. Moreover, it is important to notice that at this stage we don’t have to change the process but we need to test the best idea that we genereted. In this way we can understand if the changes that we want to apply will improve the process, if so we can later implement it.

November 25, 2015

be proactive

We should understand that customer are the people who ultimate judge the process, therefore a better understand of customer requirement is crucial in guiding our process towards improvement. Therefore, understanding what customers is the first step while we are setting the process. The problem is how we could know what they want. This require strong commitment among all of the company members, particularly many activities could be promoted such as:

Face-to-face meetings

Questionnaires capturing their feedback

But the most important thing at this step is to be proactive rather than only listen them without any interest.
