KBAM– question of having outsourcing in the real life.

After the seminar, I could clarify more my knowledge of outsourcing. However I have a doubt, which I forgot to ask. Before to say my question, I need to tell you guys what is the situation about. I saw twice in my former job, the resetting of old machines in order to keep using them. The process was heading for two people coming from United States. Of course, their experience was huge and the manufacture director did not want to get any risk, regardless the huge amount of money that it represents to the company. The thing was, nobody from the production team know how to deal with this task. But, the outsourcing people did all the process and nobody was around looking at. From my point of view, I would have decided to send one of my brilliants engineers for taking notes and get the knowledge from this particular activity. In fact, three machines would have been resetting as well, which means that for the next time, my engineer could have contributed more in doing this task quick and avoid paying more money for the working hours. It seems easy to say that, however did the outsourcing company allow me to put in charge my people? Well, It’s very likely that they could have told us; please we have to be on our own without any interruption. So, what do you think??? If the company is paying for this outsourcing, it implies to leave all the responsibility for this people or both company and outsourcing could have agreed at the beginning to add internal workers in order to obtain this knowledge?
