I really like this task, so much in fact, that I will probably take this forward when I come to teach this topic for the first time! Not only does it get pupils to explore this concept and draw their own conclusion it also pushes them to use trial and error and explore facts about triangles and angles.

I really liked this activity and liked the potential to extend the difficulty to and nxn board and generalise ascertions.

Tesselations

A great way of exploring shapes, patterns and different types of symmetry, and very kinaethetic.

In the second part of this task we were given a tesselation pattern and asked to ascertain the ratio of squares to triangles in the pattern. It was interesting to see different people's approaches to this. The most efficient method was to distinguish the part of the pattern which did repeat - which I found quite difficult so pick out visually. It was definitely more efficient than my method of constructing a two dimensional arithmetic progression and taking limits! What can I say...I like algebra.
