Hopes for 2007

Ok, so it’s a week late…

I shan’t call these my new year’s resolutions because to be fair, I don’t resolve to keep them all – they are more like hopes and intentions… I am so non-committal.

So in 2007, I hope/plan to…

Take advantage of the fact that the ‘Best Midlands’ is currently a great place for live music and new/unsigned bands. I plan to see more live music (at the end of 2006 I saw The Twang, The Gravity Crisis, The Ripps, Untitled Musical Project, Murdoch, Deluka) and I reckon if you haven’t heard of any of these bands yet – you might in 2007. The Twang were recently named one of the sounds of 2007 in a poll published on the BBC website.

I also plan to improve my knowledge of the arts (and also theatre). When I was younger, I considered myself to be fairly artistic. I wasn’t bad at art and I enjoyed taking trips to galleries in Birmingham but recently I have stopped doing these things so I need to start again… As a first step towards improving my knowledge of the arts, I have enrolled in an history of art module with the Centre for Lifelong Learning ‘Artists in context’ which starts tomorrow evening.

Along a similar line to above – I intend to watch more documentaries and less reality TV. I watched a great programme the other night about the drug/gang culture in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro which was fascniating. Also, I saw a great programme advertised that is on tonight about the California music scene during the 60s and 70s so I will be tuning in to that. And I hardly watched any of the mind-numbingly rubbish Soapstar Superstar or Just the Two of Us.

I also intend to make better use of this blog. I have trained as a journalist and I work in Communications so I hope that I can produce more interesting reading matter on here instead of just general chit-chat about my flat and stuff! Expect more reviews…

I should probably make note of a resoultion suggested by my Mom. She told me I should ‘make a concerted effort to find a boyfriend’. Now, I am not sure exactly how you are meant to ‘make a concerted effort’. It’s not like I’m not keeping my eyes/options open – the right one just isn’t coming my way… plus the fact that I am committment-phobic is a slight hindrance here. Which brings me to my next resolution…

‘Say yes and worry less’. By say ‘yes’ – I just mean, take advantage of the opportunities that come my way instead of fretting about them and worrying ‘what if?’ all the time. I think I will go and buy ‘Yes Man’ by Danny Wallace and see if that helps… although I am not going to say ‘yes’ to everything – so don’t ask!

Another thing I need to remember this year is that I am only 24 years old – not 44!! Since I got my flat and my mortgage I have been staying in more (which is fine since it will help me to fulfill the aims above) but to fulfill my other aims such as find a boyfriend and enjoy the Birmingham music-scene a bit more, I need to remember that it is ok to go out on a work night, a large proportion of my weekend should not be taken up with hoovering and tidying up, and I have the rest of my life to save money. But then when you have a nice cosy flat to go home to it is tempting to become a hermit!

So there we go – my ‘hopes’ for 2007 – we’ll see how it goes…

Blog drought

Things I want to blog about but don’t have time for…

  • Why do people like Barry Manilow?
  • Ghost hunting with Girls Aloud
  • Who is voting for Ray on X-factor?
  • Why I am doomed to remain single forever

NOTE: That last one wasn’t a question… so no need to suggest answers thanks!

BB Banner

Follow-up to Big Brother Final from For blog's sake

So, I went to the BB Final of Friday. I didn't really make it onto the TV but if you watched (very) carefully, you will have been able to see my lovely banner (courtesy of Casey and Jo).

BB Banner

After the torrential rain in Coventry held us up we managed to make it down to the Elstree Studios in Borehamwood at around 7pm. Despite being in the first group of audience members to be let in, we had a not–so–great spot in the crowd. We were facing the house beneath where the ex–housemates were sat hence why we didn't really get on the telly (the cameras all tend to face the house so we were out of shot!)

Before the live show started, Davina came out to do a little rehearsal and speak to the crowd. Casey and Jo, you will be pleased to know that the great Davina spotted the banner – she read it aloud and proceeded to cross her legs and gave me a thumbs up. Her midwife was on hand at the final just in case she did go into labour – luckily she was not needed!

The other people in the audience were what you would expect of BB fans really… I imagine that they are also the people who apply to be in BB! A lot of loud people who are pretty irritating. There was one woman stood near us who shouted obscenities every time Aisylene's name was mentioned. The bouncer said he would chuck her out if she continued! Another guy bought a plain white t–shirt and marker pen with him and threw it up to the ex–housemates and asked Shabaz to get everyone to sign it! I imagine it is probably on E–bay today!

Anyway, it was a good evening and I was just glad it didn't rain! The fireworks and glitter streamers were really good and it was interesting to be at a live show! I'm not sure whether I would go again but i'm glad that I have been. Thanks Sam!

Big Brother Final

Ok ok – some of you may think less of me for this – but I don't care(!) – I'm going to the Big Brother Final tomorrow : )

Everyone has told me I need to take a banner so I was looking for suggestions…

Nothing too rude/insulting pls!!

You Cheeky Swine!

Follow-up to YAY to Russell Brand!! from For blog's sake

Russell Brand has changed his date at the Arts Centre and postponed until 17th December...the cheeky swine!

Now I will have to wait even longer to see the strangely attractive, self-confessed “woman adorer” – hmmmm.

YAY to Russell Brand!!

Writing about web page

Russell BrandYay – rather excited…just booked tickets for me and eight friends to go and see the strangely attractive and slightly crazy Russell Brand at Warwick Arts Centre on 24th November. I know it’s a long time away but will just have to be patient!

I think he is great on Big Brothers Big Mouth so am curious to see what one of his stand-up gigs will be like!! Yay!

Who made that decision….??

Did anybody else think that Mambo Number 5 was a strange choice of song for yesterdays cricket highlights on Channel 4??

After the live coverage of the match and the presentation ceremony yesterday evening….they played Mambo Number 5 as the soundtrack to the best-bits!!

I can't think of a more suitable song off the top of my head….but I definitely wouldn't have chosen that!! Any better suggestions?

Dirty Man

Did anybody see 'How Clean is Your House?' last night?

What a dirty, ungrateful man. I felt physically sick when they showed his dirty 'never been cleaned' toilet! Kim and Aggie should have just left him to live in his dirty squallor….Worse than any student house i've seen!

On a similar note…Channel Four were on good form last night. We were treated to 'You Are What You Eat' with two obese people from Birmingham and then 'Supernanny' which featured a woman from Coventry whose kids were out of control.

Nice to see the people of the Midlands keeping up the positive image!
