Moving pretty quickly…
Follow-up to Buying a flat! from For blog's sake
This buying a house malarky is a funny business.
I hadn’t really heard from my solicitors for a couple of weeks or so then they rang this morning and said that they have received all of the documents regarding the mortgage and they have completed all of the searches on the property and they are ready for me to go and sign for the flat!!
I’m not sure exactly what signing for the flat means… but she did say that once I had signed then I could be in within a week… in fact, her words were: “If you come in and sign on Monday you could be in by this time next week” – aarrgghhh. Am going to the solicitors at 10am on Monday morning to sign the papers and then going straight to Ikea!
It’s funny how you feel like nothing is happening but really it’s all going on behind the scenes and then the next thing you know it’s time to move and you haven’t even packed! Eeek! Am very, very excited but still have so much to get… shopping this weekend me thinks :)

Do I attract weird people?
I just received an email via my blog…
Subject: you
Message: look at your teeth
What’s wrong with my teeth??
I’m confused, a little bit sad and slightly scared.
Who was it? Now own up!

MySpace Update
Follow-up to MySpace – 100th Friend from For blog's sake

Our comments seem to be picking up now. The common theme seems to be students trying to make contact with other students studying a particular subject or living in a particular halls of residence.
The trouble is that people can post comments on the Warwick page, but if it is directed at other friends i.e. other freshers, the only way they can reply is:- Post a comment back – which would result in a massive list of comments; or
- Add the person they want to speak to as a friend and then comment on that persons page – taking the discussion away from the Warwick page.
There isn’t a facility for forum chats which I think is greatly missed on myspace. Can anyone suggest a way that I might improve discussion between ‘friends’ on the university myspace page?
I am attending a webinar tonight which is primarily about graduates associations and how they can use myspace and facebook to maintain a dialogue with young alumni and involve graduates in the alumni association. Maybe I will find the answer there?
Two years ago today my uncle died. It was a Saturday – 18th September.
I was shopping in Solihull with my cousin Clare, Mom and Dad were on the Isle of Wight to celebrate my dads birthday, my cousin Rosie had been rockclimbing for her friends birthday party… i’m not sure what everyone else in the family were doing but everyone was just doing the normal Saturday things… no one could possibly have expected the what happened that day.
My uncle had been refereeing a rugby game in Bloxwich – Bloxwich 2nds v Droitwich 3rds. He regularly refereed games, and before he was a ref he was a player for Old Saltleians. He loved the sport. Fifteen mintues into the game he collapsed and wasn’t able to get back up. He was just 51 years old.
As well as loving Rugby, he loved teaching. He was a teacher at schools across Coventry and Warwickshire. He was Deputy Head at St John the Baptist School in Smiths Wood, where he met my aunty Mary. He also taught in Coventry, Nuneaton, Bedworth and eventually became a schools inspector for Peterborough Education Authority.
I can’t believe it was only two years ago. I mean, it does seem like a long time ago that he died, but it doesn’t seem like he has been gone long.

Ticket touts make me sooooo angry
Grrr – tickets for The Killers in Wolverhampton went on sale this morning…

A mate of mine went to the Civic at 8am and queued to get some for us. His brother was also at home trying to get some online – and neither of them managed to get any.
I look on Ebay this afternoon and there are already loads of people selling their tickets online! It makes me so angry!!
Why don’t the police just go and arrest them?!
All These Things That I’ve Done
When there’s nowhere else to run
Is there room for one more son
One more son
If you can hold on
If you can hold on, hold on
I wanna stand up, I wanna let go
You know, you know – no you don’t, you don’t
I wanna shine on in the hearts of men
I want a meaning from the back of my broken hand
Another head aches, another heart breaks
I am so much older than I can take
And my affection, well it comes and goes
I need direction to perfection, no no no no
Help me out
Yeah, you know you got to help me out
Yeah, oh don’t you put me on the blackburner
You know you got to help me out
And when there’s nowhere else to run
Is there room for one more son
These changes ain’t changing me
The cold-hearted boy I used to be
Yeah, you know you got to help me out
Yeah, oh don’t you put me on the blackburner
You know you got to help me out
You’re gonna bring yourself down
Yeah, you’re gonna bring yourself down
Yeah, you’re gonna bring yourself down
I got soul, but I’m not a soldier
I got soul, but I’m not a soldier
...
Yeah, you know you got to help me out
Yeah, oh don’t you put me on the blackburner
You know you got to help me out
You’re gonna bring yourself down
You’re gonna bring yourself down
Yeah, oh don’t you put me on the blackburner
Yeah, you’re gonna bring yourself down
Over and out, last call for sin
While everyone’s lost, the battle is won
With all these things that I’ve done
All these things that I’ve done
If you can hold on
If you can hold on

Hooray – I have just approved our 100th friend on MySpace.

Thats (roughly) 51 profile views and 4 (and a bit) friends a day!
N.B. I haven’t added anybody as our friend, that is just from other people adding us as a friend.
CSS training
Follow-up to A fun day out… hmmm from For blog's sake
Just for continuity purposes, I suppose I should mention what else I learnt on my Netskills training course yesterday…
Positioning with CSS
Page Flow
Positioning: Static, Relative, Absolute, Fixed
Floats
Stacking Order
Alternate Layouts, Standards and Browser Issues
Why use CSS?
Alternate Layouts
Media-specific Styles
Standards and Validation
Browser Issues
To be honest, I had kind of turned my brain off by the last session – my head was starting to hurt!!
However, all in all it was a very useful day, I wasn’t as confused as I expected to be, a lot of it was actually rather interesting, the practical tasks were kind of fun and I was rather impressed by what could be achieved with CSS.

A fun day out… hmmm
Well I am currently on a CSS course at Nottingham University.
It’s actually not as tricky as I thought it would be given my knowledge of html is very basic.
So far we have learnt…
The Basics
Internal Style Sheets
External Style Sheets
CSS for Colours and Fonts
< div > and < span > tags
Using Classes
Using ID
The Box Model
Margins
Width and Centering
Borders
Padding
More stuff about Boxes…
And now we are about to have lunch… phew!
Gah – maybe it is tricker than I thought… just writing what we have done here started to affect my formatting!
You can’t go throwing < div > and < span > tags around!
