Sorry blog

I wish I had the time and inclination to write on this blog more… I think I need a new incentive… maybe a new blog…

I assumed you’d joined the throngs abandoning WarwickBlogs in favour of Facebook. No? If not, maybe you should – that might be the incentive you need? Not that I’m trying to encourage you to leave us, you understand:-)

Thank you Ellie! What about a new-look blog?

I am on Facebook Steve but cannot be bothered with the ‘notes’ thing as an alternative to a blog. Tbh – i’m wondering whether a change of scenery and clean sheet would help… although I would feel sad leaving WarwickBlogs (and the guaranteed audience of about 5 people who occassionally comment on my entries!)

You have 5 people reading your blog? Wow! I dream of an audience that big…! But that’d mean I have to write interesting stuff, which isn’t very likely:-)

Maybe you should try following Casey over to Wordpress? That would at least give you a clean start. I’m not sure that would give me much motivation, though.

Now that I’ve bothered to search Facebook and found you, you do keep it fairly up to date (like the profile picture, by the way!!). Why would you want a separate blog? Facebook notes aren’t brilliant (I don’t use them either) but with the other stuff that’s there maybe they are good enough?

Anyway, aren’t all 20-odd year old’s supposed to document their lives in Facebook?

  5. Nobody is forcing you to blog. Of course, I’d much rather if people weren’t upping sticks and leaving WB behind, but there’s no gun. So many of the old bloggers have departed, with memories of when it was much easier to write entries in the distant past.

I feel so old now. :(

  6. I don’t know about any of the other Warwick bloggers, but I personally couldn’t imagine writing my Warwick bloggings as Facebook notes. Without wanting to sound precious, but necessarily sounding impossibly precious, it would feel like posting a novel on MySpace for all to ignore.

  7. I used to import WB onto facebook, but realised that was going tooooo far.
    Why this inactivity hmm?

I don’t know about them being less interesting but I think the electronic age has changed things a lot. I’m a student now again after many years, yonks in fact, but when I was first a student there was more radicalism. I remember having a sit-in because we were all concerned about the files the university were holding on students. Today advances in computing enables unprecedented monitoring of a population (Big Brother had nothing on it)with almost total apathy of the monitored population. Nothing much came of the sit-in, it was just a good excuse to get together and do nothing and it was just before the summer holidays anyway. I guess today if students were to have a sit-in it would be round their computers.

    I blame the parents.

Blogging is like any form of writing, try to do it and you’ll get writers block (bloggers block – could be the phrase of 2008)

About me

My name is Ellie Lovell and I am the Web Editor in the Communications Office at the University of Warwick.

I started this blog in August 2005 when I started working at the University and have learnt a lot from it. I don’t update it so much anymore (I have been unfaithful to WarwickBlogs) but I hope you enjoy what is here…
