Boy or girl?An interesting question that I was faced with earlier…

Is the University of Warwick male or female?

Answers with reasons please!

  1. Male – it's hard headed, prone to one upmanship with other universities, obsessed with the latest gadgets, treats its offspring (the Union) with a degree of distance and won't mother it, it's got Warwick Sports which shows it's a competitve dad and wants its students to beat other universities's kids, the Koan is phallic, and the whole things wees standing up.

I shoud have guessed you would be the first on that one Holly!

Funny how you think that females can not be hard headed, interested in the latest gadgets, competitive or wee standing up!

  4. I'm competitive and love gadgets (and can be hard headed if needs be) but the university just displays those traits in a more masculine way, for instance having an obsession with gadgets beyond what is necessary – those card operated doors on the new Maths building which, having been in Maths, I have no idea what they are protecting (unlike the Computer Science Dept which obviously has lots of computers to protect) and didn't even work properly when they first began!

Besides, you can't have a question about whether something is male or female without using exaggerated and stereotyped gender characteristics, hehehe.

About me

My name is Ellie Lovell and I am the Web Editor in the Communications Office at the University of Warwick.

I started this blog in August 2005 when I started working at the University and have learnt a lot from it. I don’t update it so much anymore (I have been unfaithful to WarwickBlogs) but I hope you enjoy what is here…
