  1. Count me in.

Though I must warn you I can't play the guitar or sing. I have, however, watched Desperado and Once upon a time in Mexico which both featured Antonio Banderas as a gun toting Mariachi.

    I'm sure thats good enough.

  2. that's definitely good enough. i think your hair could be sufficiently mariachi enough – you can be the poster boy. so long as you're prepared to grow a long moustache.

    14 Apr 2005, 13:45

  3. I understand that a long moustache is a sign of virility. As a man manly man of course I shall attempt, forwith, to persuade mine to grow to hitherto unseen longtitudes.

We should probably source some of those sombrero hats.

  4. i'm sure we could find a few sombreros amongst the ironic student population…at least one of us is definitely going to have to play the guitar though. we should get started on weaving those serapes, too.

  5. Bashmore

Can i play bongo's please…i know they'r not normally in Mariachi bands…but what the helll…and ill even change my name to Hulo Hoop…and ill try and lose the accent!

  6. of course you can play bongos, and you can be responsible for screaming 'arriba!' whenever possible

    14 Apr 2005, 14:42

  7. I quite like the look of those scarves…

    14 Apr 2005, 14:47

  8. I can play bass and (just about) trumpet. I can also order many alcoholic beverages in Spanish. Am I hired or do you want my GCSE results as well?

    14 Apr 2005, 14:49

  9. you are absolutely hired. as a history student (right?) you should also be in possession of many long and stripey scarves which we can weave into serapes, should the occasion arise.

    14 Apr 2005, 14:51

  10. Accusation 1: history student, yes, yes I am.
Accusation 2: scarves, stripey, yes, many.

I am a walking, talking stereotype.

  11. brilliant! we're very well set up for this mariachi band. in possession of any ironically huge hats?

    14 Apr 2005, 14:55

  12. Dave Mc beige

I think the band should be called Ernesto and the Gap years!

    14 Apr 2005, 15:39

  13. I'm in. I don't have an ironically huge hat, but I do have an ironically huge guitar knocking about somewhere.

    14 Apr 2005, 16:06

  14. I can play guitar…ish…enough to strum enthusiastically if shown the right chords…if they're difficult to move between we can have lots of bongo solos!!

    14 Apr 2005, 20:43

  15. brilliant. i think the band's big enough now. we just need to decide which song will be our first release. i suggest 'mull of kintyre' with 'mambo no. 5' as a b-side.

    15 Apr 2005, 11:42

  16. Follow that up with a buttock clenching rendition of 'My Heart Will Go On' and I think we are half way to a covers album.

If it worked for Joss Stone…
