Top 20 Albums

A few months ago I read Mr Robert Hendy’s top 10 albums list (found here). After reading it I felt that I should produce one of my own. So, now that my exams are done I have produced such a list.

I couldn’t keep it to 10 though, so I’ve done a top 20. Favourite songs from each album are also given along with year of original release:

1.Porcupine Tree – In Absentia
(2003, Trains)
2. Amplifier – Amplifier
(2004, Motorhead)
3. Pink Floyd – The Dark Side of the Moon
(1973, Time)
4.Pure Reason Revolution – The Dark Third
(2006, The Bright Ambassadors of Morning)
5. Opeth – Blackwater Park
(2001, Bleak)
6. Porcupine Tree – Stupid Dream
(1999, Stranger by the Minute)
7. Anathema – Judgement
(1999, Wings of God)
8. King Crimson – Red
(1974, Starless)
9. Nine Inch Nails – The Fragile
(1999, Into the Void)
10. Secret Machines – Now Here Is Nowhere
(2004, Sad and Lonely)

11. R.E.M. – Automatic for the People
(1992, Man on the Moon)
12. Yes – Close to the Edge
(1972, Siberian Khatru)
13. Mew – And the Glass Handed Kites
(2005, Apocalypso)
14. Blue States – Nothing Changes Under the Sun
(2001, The Trainer Shuffle)
15. Led Zeppelin – Physical Graffiti
(1975, Kashmir)
16. Turin Brakes – The Optimist LP
(2001, Mind over Money)
17. Porcupine Tree – Fear of a Blank Planet
(2007, Sleep Together)
18. Radiohead – OK Computer
(1997, Airbag)
19. Jeff Buckley – Grace
(1994, Grace)
20. Live – Throwing Copper
(1994, I Alone)

Albums by Immune, The Mars Volta, Doves, Mansun and Dredg all came close. Also my favourite EP is Silver by Jesu and my favourite compilation is Early Days & Latter Days by Led Zeppelin. Obviously this list is likely to be changed in the future!

New Hexagonal Cheesecake EP

I’ve just heard that the legendary German band Hexagonal Cheesecake are releasing a new EP after an 11 year hiatus. Here’s the cover:
Cover

The tracks are:
1) Ist Dieser Mein Freimütige Bleistift? 14:02
2) King of Kerle 1:45
3) Horse Handgrenade 4:21
4) Kalcium 6:32
5) Jetzt Wissen Sie, Wo Sie Leben, Bewegen Wir Uns Nach Düsseldorf 0:57

I have recovered this review from a German website, I’ve translated on the internet, so its not a great translation:
“The tone is new and is real. Hendy also, how Watkins fulfil it Wunderbarheit are, and the track of the name – 14 minutes not really urgently. The truthful progression of the work is former, what is in the impression ’ Handgranate of the horse ’ perceived the cords and the only guitar rages in particular takes up. Some weaknesses appear in later songs, but the general impression is that the very strong EP is which gives big hope for this electro and blue pioneers of the rock. 4/5”

Hopefully it will be as good as the review suggests!
