'C. S. Lewis: A Biography'

C.S. Lewis was an Irish-born author and scholar. He is known for his work on medieval literature, Christian apologetics, literary criticism and fiction.

Much has been said of Lewis since his death, a lot of which has been said by people, Christian and otherwise, wishing to have the famous apologist and scholar in their corner of a particular debate. As a result, much of the perception of Lewis has been polarised and twisted, leaving an incomplete image of the man behind the writings.

In this biography, A.N. Wilson attempts to cut through all of this polarisation and show Lewis in his true light and, in my opinion, he succeeds in doing so. In this light, we come to see that Lewis, the famous apologist, is human after all. We see all of his flaws and foibles. However, we see them in perspective. We are simply being shown a man living his life, as any of us do.

I find it encouraging to think that a man such as Lewis, flawed as he is shown to be, was able to write so brilliantly on so many subjects, but most of all on Christianity. It means that I don’t have to be perfect to be useful, and to be used for whatever God intends for me.

I fully recommend this book to everyone, whether they have read Lewis or not, whether they are Christian or not.
