Solar panels??

Materials and Analytical Science Building

This is a pic of the new Materials and Analytical Science Building of the Chemistry department which I took sometime back. Was looking at the photograph today I realised that the windows looked quite unique. Are they solar panels?

The building costs £25 million and you can see the construction online via their webcam here.

View from my office window

The WBS Teaching Centre is undergoing renovation and we have moved to our new offices in the Humanities building. I was initially not too happy about the move but I later found out that the new office is not that bad. Ther's a cafe downstairs and the building is near to the bus stand, car park 7 as well as the Library. Best of all our office overlook a japanese garden which I had once covered in my Where in the campus series.

Japanese Gaden

The trees are now flowering and the sight from my window is wonderful.

We usually resent changes to our comfortable lives but sometimes it can be for the better.

Frequently asked questions by international PhD students

Here are a list of questions that are frequently asked by International PhD students (at least by those at WBS) and the answers are not readily available.

  1. Can I teach while doing my PhD?
  2. Can I supervise students doing their Masters?
  3. Can I become part of the staff in the University?
  4. Can I get a scholarship after I start my PhD?
  5. Can I join a society as a PhD student?
  6. Is there a bank that does not change fees to International students to open an account?
  7. Can I get a second supervisor?
  8. Is it possible for me to get FREE accommodation in the campus?
  9. Is there a place in or around the campus where I can park my car for free?
  10. Can I get free coffee/ tea in the morning in the campus?
  11. Can I get married in the campus?

Ok, I admit some of the questions are NOT asked that frequently but believe it or not , the answer to all the questions is a big "YES!"

Parking and selfish people

Today morning I spent nearly half an hour trying to find parking until I finally got one in Parking 15.

I am not annoyed that I had to pay £1.50 but the fact that going around the car parks near my office, I found out that several selfish people had improperly parked and were taking 2 parking spaces. Some were parked right on top of the lines.

I am aware that the parking spaces are small and that we are all wary of getting scratches on our car doors but I can still manage to park with my not so small Volvo. If you don't know how to park properly, you should not be driving a car. Or I suggest you take some extra driving lessons - not to learn how to drive but rather how to park.

Where in the campus 5

Some pictures I took last month somewhere in the campus. Can you guess where it is?

You get the feeling that you are walking under a green, living tunnel.

Where in the campus 4

Can you guess where this picture was taken?

The pics are not that clear as they were taken using my mobile and it was quite cloudy that day.

Where in the campus 2

The answer to Where in the campus 1: This is in a cozy spot (partly hidden) behind the reception of Radcliffe centre and the WBS teaching centre.

This week, these are pics of a Japanese garden (I think) in the campus. The unique thing is that it is located inside a building.

I saw some ducks as well.

Where in the campus 1

This is the first in a series of pictures taken at various locations in the campus - usually a quiet corner. Can you locate it?

This is a fountain at the back of the Social Studies building, Warwick Business School.

It has some words - maybe poetry, written on the top (does that make sense) but didn't have time to read it.
