2005: A CS Project Odyssey
Its nearly over I hope, I'm down to the last serious objective and its only three odd weeks late (I blame the ill). Of course once it all works, and looks pretty its still not over. I have to actually do the presentation, as well as write a big fat report on it in the next six weeks. Like the mythological hero of the Homeric epic alluded to in the title; I shall eventually triumph and find my way home.
I've decided to make my next subject for reading revision the complete works of Nietzsche. What does not destroy me only makes me stronger.
Which doesn't lead me neatly to 2001: A Space Odyssey, a film which I have owned on DVD for over a year now and only just got around to watching last night on a whim. All I can say is, what the hell?
Why did they use every special effect available in the time period and squirt them all on the screen for about fifteen minutes, what was the part near the end with the white room containing georgian furniture? The black slabs? The intermission!? Kubrick, you are one crazy genius.
The middle part of the film with the evil AI HAL was however pretty awesome.
"I'm afraid I can't do that Dave"
I first saw it when I was eight, and I remember
thinking it all made perfect sense. Then I rewatched it a couple of years later, and … it really didn't.
Have you read the book? Depending on what kind of mood you're in, it either clears a lot of stuff up, or makes it ten times more confusing…

I have not read the book, I may seek it out if I'm in the mood for a mental mangling.
