Ok so I'm not entirely sure why I have a blog but as suggested in the title I have the feeling it may be part vanity project and part a venting mechanism of some sort. Anyway I'm sure it will inevitablly die the death once course demands take over and departmental types expect me to have some sort of dissertation idea in hand....there are plenty of topics of interest, but too many economists who have researched them already. Damn them.
Anyway these facts have taken me more towards the political side of my interests, so I have ambitious reading plans which will almost invariablly come to nothing. While pondering this I noticed on channel 4 news that the Open University has published research which claims that students are in practice facing an inflation rate of 6.6%, due to the nature of our consumption bundles being made up mostly of food (and drink), transport, rent and so on. Combine this with reports from business lobbies showing expectations of rising unemployment over the coming months, and things don't look so rosy for the graduate job market either.
