One of those movies you hear a lot about but can probably just about get away with not seeing. Well not anymore! I watched the
DVD last night suffering from tiredness and throat infection and within half an hour it had me hooked. If your around my age you can immediately relate to Hoffman's character – a young inexperienced guy who's pretty bored of following the conventional lifestyle his elders have paved for him. I guess above all it follows the rite of passage of any young man who's finishing studies and heading into the wider world. Wonderfully shot with some great camerawork and a fantastic soundtrack by Simon and Garfunkel I was surprised just how good this movie turned out to be, though as a word of warning the main disappointment was the slightly melodramatic ending. Anyway I don't want to give anything away but I recommend you watch it and watch it soon.

I remember seeing this many years ago and feeling much the same way about it so reading your review put a big smile on my face – thanks!
I think THE GRADUATE established something of a benchmark for these films. Here are two more along similar themes – young men with older women. If you haven t already seen them, well, having enjoyed GRADUATE you re in for a treat.
ROGER DODGER (2003) stars Campbell Scott as a sleazy yuppie who takes his sixteen year old nephew on a bar crawl round Manhattan with the express intention the boy gets laid. The older man's misogyny, cynicism and plain nastiness ultimately prove his undoing…
Also recommended is the Mexican movie Y TU MAMA TAMBIEN (2001) (AND YOUR MOTHER TOO). A huge hit in Mexico (and on the art house circuit here) it follows a pair of hormonally charged teenage boys who set off on a randy romp of a road trip with a beautiful older woman.
I think Y tu Mama is in the library if not e mail me I might be able to source a copy.
