Wiki woo

"Britain, Britain, Britain. Land of technological brilliance. We've had running water for over 10 years, we have an underground tunnel linking us to Peru, and we invented the cat." So begins the first episode of the first series of Little Britain, one of the best comedies the BBC has made in recent years.

I've been watching this over the holidays to distract me from my revision (Why do Warwick insist on giving people exams first day of term 3?) so I thought I might blog about it to waste even more time. I'd not seen the first series on TV, only the second one, so it was interesting to see the characters who didn't make it into the second series, such as former childrens TV presenter Des Kaye (Wiki woo), now working at a DIY superstore., and the Scottish hotel manager (Yeeeessss) who gives his customers riddles such as
I am hard yet soft
I am coloured yet clear
I am jelly
What am I?

The extra features are also good, including a sketch where Daffyd comes out to his parents, and some scenes which never made it into the series. Overall, I liked it better than the second series, but some of the characters didn't amuse me, particularly Jason, who fancies his best mate Gary's nan. I can see why they didn't come back in Series 2. But the best characters, such as Daffyd, Sebastian, and Vicky Pollard were as good as they were in the later series, as are Tom Baker's voiceovers, so I'm still going to give it 5 stars.

DVD review – Star Wars trilogy

Title:
Rating:
4 out of 5 stars
Eventually found time to watch all three of the films and the bonus disc of extra stuff, and I've noticed a few changes that George Lucas has made between the special edition videos and this DVD set, but only one really bothered me, right at the end of Return of the Jedi. As for the bonus disc, there's a documentary about the history of Star Wars, and some previews of Episode 3. The fight between Anakin and Obi-Wan looks really cool even when all they've got of it on the bonus disc is them doing it infront of a green-screen with sticks. Overall, the bonus disc is OK for those who like that sort of thing, and the films are as good as they ever were (far better than the prequels, in my opinion) with only the one annoying change from George Lucas.
