Warwick 33X local field policy (work in progress)

  1. Warwick records the RDA Content, Media and Carrier Types (MARC 336, 337 and 338) fields
  2. Warwick encodes both the term (subfield $a) and code (subfield $b)
  3. Warwick prefers repeating 33X fields (not single fields with repeating subfields)
  4. Our policy for dealing with accompanying material is developing as below:

Below are three options for the handling of accompanying material depending upon how much information you want to give - This example is a book with an accompanying CD of a lecture:

Option 1. Account for accompanying material in 300 field/s but ignore as far as 33x

300##244 pages ... +|e1 CD
336##text|btxt|2rdacontent
337##unmediated|bn|2rdamedia
338##volume|bnc|2rdacarrier

Alternatively: 300 can be in separate fields.

300##244 pages ...
300##1 CD ...

Option 2. Account for accompanying material in 300 field/s and by adding 2nd set of 33x

300##244 pages ... +|e1 CD

336##text|btxt|2rdacontent
336##spoken word|bspw|2rdacontent

337##unmediated|bn|2rdamedia
337##audio|bc|2rdamedia

338##volume|bnc|2rdacarrier
338##audio disc|bsd|2rdacarrier

Option 3. Account for accompanying material in 300 field/s and by adding 2nd set of 33x with leading |3 for each field

Subfield |3 - Materials specified can be used in the 336-338 fields to identify which field applies to which part of the described materials. eg. For the book or for the accompanying CD:

300##244 pages ... +|e1 CD

336##|3book|atext|btxt|2rdacontent
336##|3CD|aspoken word|bspw|2rdacontent

337##|3book|aunmediated|bn|2rdamedia
337##|3CD|aaudio|bc|2rdamedia

338##|3book|avolume|nc|2rdacarrier
338##|3CD|audio disc|bsd|2rdacarrier

PS:

You could put a note:

500##Accompanied by a CD.
