A Gracious blessing or a clear provision for taking the high path?

This one’s been brewing for sometime now..

As a congregation we have been working through 1 Samuel. The journey follows Samuel. In this journey the people ask for a King even though it is clear that the word is to follow God and not a king. God decides to appoint a King following the wishes of the People and Saul is installed as King, given Gods blessing and in time proves to be ‘not up to the job’.This is a very brief summary of the journey and in no way intended to be a full concise account. It is merely leading onto my point.

My point is that God is gracious enough to bless us and give us a fair run even when we ask for something that is clearly not the best (Highest/narrowest) path to take.

This leads me to question,

When we pray for God to provide and he does;

How do we know whether we are taking the best path or being graciously blessed by God?

Your thoughts….

  1. Wise women!

    (actually i’m not wise i asked a wise old man!) he said that God was not being gracious he was just going along with their will to show them the foolishness of following the world. The old testament is the old covenant and a shadow of God’s revelation in the new testament. so this story is a warning to the people of God not to crave things of the world. The people were rejecting God and choosing the worlds system. Therefore if as a christian you reject the Kingdom of God and follow the worlds system you are following your own will and not God’s. So to answer the question there isn’t a parallel here because although God will go along with your will even if you go against his, he gave us the new covenant which includes the Holy spirit. So if we are open to the Holy spirit we can know what God’s will is and so therefore follow it. (this was the short version!!!!!) :o)
