Dick and Dom in da Bungalow

The Guardian and I must have some kind of telepathic link. As soon as I discover/come up with something which I intend to blog about, the woolly liberal rag gets in there first. It happened a lot around the US election – see previous blogs – and today it happened again.

I first saw Dick and Dom in da Bungalow about a year ago, and thought it was a pile of wank, so I watched Ministry of Mayhem on the other side, which, despite being of much the same quality, at least had a comely female co-presenting. However, after spending a completely innocent night over at my ex's last Friday night, I was encouraged to give it another chance. And I was pleasantly surprised.

Now, rather than explain what is so good about it, I'll just refer you to the article in today's Guide section (it's the cover story – you can't miss it) of the Guardian because it basically sums up my argument. The piece's only shortcoming is that it fails to mention the brilliantly so-bad-it's-good Batfink double bill which they have at roughly 10.30, after the famous – and needless to say, utter genius – Bogeys game.

What can I say? Next Saturday, set your alarms and check it out.

I honestly believe, after watching Dick and Dom for two years (not cotinuously you understand) that these chaps are the next Reeves and Mortimer. Whether or not they would cut it as entertainers for a primarily adult audience is a superfluous argument – the Bungalow on Saturday and Sunday mornings is a show for adults: watch out for its many references to Fawlty Towers, the Mini D+D' straight out of Reeves and Mortimer in the early 90's, the bizarre strangely talented (think Vic Reeves' Novelty Island in the late 90's) and a vaguely sexual undercurrent that is always abruptly cut short. So abruptly, in fact, that you can't help noticing it. This is the deconstruction of kids TV and TV in general with regular references to the failings of the unseen members of the crew (who are often heard sniggering as Dom is frankly brusque to the Bungalow Heads – who seem to love it). It is sadism at its most gentle. Roald Dahl once said that children like to be scared. The proof is here. You'll love it.

Dick and Dom are indeed freaking ace and I should know, I introduced them to you.

Last year I spent the Friday night on the sofa so I didn't need to move in the morning.

Im such a big fan of this show and you do get odd looks from people when I say I love them since Im 26 years old, enjoying the show so far, Harry Batt has been the star on this series as well as Melvin Odoom and of Course the Boysas well, I believe the Bungalow ends on the 18th of March 2006 and Hopefully for a few weeks there will be Best of's the Bungalow, something really spectacular will have to replace this show

  16. The more I watch Dick and Dom, the more I'm convinced that it's actually aimed at students with hangovers and the fact that it works as kids' entertainment is merely a useful by-product. There are so many jokes and things that kids would never understand. I think they missed a trick by not calling the feature Dick and Dom's Dirty Weekend.

And DC Harry Batt is a legend.
