Some poker success

It's been quite a good fortnight for poker. In the last two weeks I made $400 playing low stakes poker online. Pretty good. It breaks down as follows:

  • $25 taking someone's stack with JJ on a flop of Jxx, they just went allin with a flush draw, very stupid
  • $25 taking someone's stack with KK when they called my allin with A8, very stupid.
  • $15 or so playing pot limit omaha hi/lo, which is a very soft game on party
  • $135 playing a few $22 and $11 single table tournaments
  • $200 after coming 75th/1500, 68th/1500 and 29th/1500 in three multi table tournaments (two $6 rebuy tournaments, one $11 freezeout)

I think I might cash some of it out of my account and reward myself by going to Gordon Ramsay for dinner some time.

  2. It's an amazing game, I've been playing for a year or two now. I started with $25 in my online account and now I've got $1150. You can play online for free to see how it suits you. If you download party poker, you can play on their "play money" tables. I did that for a month or so before I deposited any real money.

Why don't you come to the pokersoc tournament tomorrow. It's only £3 (or £6 if you take the rebuy/topup which is sensible to do).

I would, but i've got the raw social. I play with some friends about once a week, they're all pretty good players though, so i haven't made any money yet. Been playing 'free' online poker for a few days now actually, might wait a bit till i put real money on.

  4. Well, I just lost $66 playing two tournaments – ups and downs. Once you get to the point where you can win consistently (say 80% of the time) playing for play money, it's probably pretty safe to move up to playing for real money. If you do, it might be worth opening an account at VC instead of Party or Stars, as they have smaller stakes tables which are quite good to practice on and less risky.

Where were you on Thursday by the way? Hardly anyone turned up.

Sorry man – was ill, told Filip, guess he didn't remember. Might put a few quid down and see where it gets me – very capitalist though :/
