Hearty congrats to… My sister

This is a short entry dedicated to my little sister Emma, who today passed her driving test with 3 minors on her second attempt. Go you Emz, just remember to let me past if I'm following you ;-)

  1. Well done to Em… and clearly you're going to have to let her past…

She had to take it twice? Tsk tsk Siggy I think somewhere you're failing as a brother! Either you failed to teach her or you scared the shit out of her!

Other than that, I'm sure you're a lovely brother ;) Congrats to Em! Remind me not to ever tell you if I finally get my license.

  4. Hey, I had to take it twice! And Emma only failed first time round on her manouevers I think, she was just panicky and not confident/well practiced enough. It's not my fault if her instructor tried to teach her some rubbish way instead of the proper way to parallel park! And why not tell me if you get your licence?

You little brat! You're not on msn at all!!!! Siggy, did you block me?!

    (hahaha… I'm kidding, I know I'm not blocked!)

  7. What's the proper way to parallel park? Reverse gear, foot fully off the clutch and one hand on the wheel?

  8. Well her teacher taught her to use full lock at all times… A better way is the following:

    1. Line up parallel to the car in front of the space you want to reverse into about 18 inches away from it.
    2. When reversing, apply full lock as the centrelines of the rear axle of your vehicle and the parked vehicle are in line
    3. Straighten up when the car is at about 45 degrees
    4. Apply full reverse lock and straighten up at the right moment.

My sister's teacher taught her to skip step 3, so consequently the correction needed with reverse lock is much greater.

  9. (round of applause)

    Yay! Well done!

whisperwhisper I took my test 3 times. And passed the third with 15 minors. I didn't even think that was possible. And to be honest, my driving got progressively worse each time…

Any comments about women drivers are looked upon very dimly…

Speaking of all things automotive, how goes Formula Student? Have the meetings killed you yet? More to the point, are you getting to do anything fun at all?

  10. I thought 15 minors was a fail… Evidently you must have dressed well on the day ;-) And me? Make comments on women drivers? Surely not!!!

Formula Student update due soon when I find the time to make a proper blog post.

  11. "Evidently you must have dressed well on the day ;-)"

    It's not a fail where I come from. :P

And I did dress well. And talked extensively to the examiner about laminitis. That probably clinched it. :)
